So - it's Saturday night, and after a few beers I'm thinking about life and death and everything in between.
It struck me that very often, we are not very good at asking each other how we are -really- doing. (Perhaps I just have bad friends, although I don't think so - I just think we forget to ask each other in the hustle and bustle of everyday life.) Therefore, I am asking you - how are you really doing? Are you happy with your life right now? Where do you want to be in five years, and how do you plan on getting there?

Obviously, this is just a conversational thread. If you're bored or philosophical or both or neither, feel free to reply! Your company is much appreciated. :)

Man, I shoulda opened with that! I live in Brooklyn, that's more or less how I say it anyway. :p

That being said, my question was more "what's up in your life" and less "I wanna sleep with you". ;)

Terrible, just terrible.

Why is that? If you don't mind elaborating, of course. :)
Much disappoint from the new Godzirra.

ask yourself,

"Am I really happy?"

"with a coin toss, does my life have more potential to be better or worse?"

"what makes me unhappy and why is it in my life?"

I appreciate the advice, but I'm actually doing pretty alright myself! I was just thinking that maybe someone else out there weren't doing too great and wanted to talk about it, and I wanted to provide a space for them to do so. :)

How are you doing? :)

Yeah man, sometimes it's good to think about where you are in life and where you are headed. :D
Unfortunately, "how are you doing?" is for the most part a comment used with the expectation by both parties of "how are you doing?" from one and a short response by the other. Nothing in-depth. Basic politeness adhered to by both parts and nothing more.
I hate small talk. I wish people would only use "How are you doing?" when they are really curious about people's lives like the OP.

For the most part you are right, but in this particular case it is a genuine question, and I would like a genuine answer. :) How are you?

I agree! I never got why "how are you doing" became a superficial greeting when it could be so much more than that. In that vein - how are you? :)

Well it gives people the illusion that other people care about them and in the USA, I guess that is considered polite... Personally, I don't find it polite to annoy people with small talk but I'm not normal.
