I read about this this morning. I don't know the details but skimming indicated the proceeds would be entirely donated to the shelter. So long as the people running the hotspots are genuinely willing that could be a positive thing for everyone involved. Of course there's about a million ways this could go wrong, just saying it could be positive if it's set up correctly.

Next we'll have the homeless standing on our roofs with antennas so we can get a signal.

I've never been homeless, but this whole idea certainly doesn't give me a warm and fuzzy. There has got to be more dignified ways to raise money.
