hedwards: At this point it has less to do with the game and more to do with our interest not to get wrapped up in the ridiculous semi-religious status that soccer has assumed elsewhere. We've got it bad enough in pockets that view football as religion, we do not need that getting around.
Psyringe: With the possible exception of South America (but even there I'm not certain about it, it's just the most likely candidate), semi-religious soccer fans are always a small (though very vocal) minority. It's probably not very different from football fans. Most people are simply interested in the sport (some a bit more, some a bit less), probably root for their club (some only in front of their TV, others in the stadium), and the few people who turn their club into the most important thing in their lives are actually often being ridiculed by the others.
We have fewer riots at our sporting events, just saying. Soccer seems to leave a much more significant body count than anything we do play.
That being said, soccer is probably the biggest waste of electricity around here. We've had to create these new fields with massive lighting so that people can get their fix after school year round, it's really annoying and a complete waste of tax payer dollars that could be going to feed the homeless or fix our streets.
hedwards: Unlike Soccer, Football involves actual play, rather than a bunch of men kicking the ball back and forth for hours on end.
Wishbone: Unlike American Football, Soccer involves actual play, rather than a bunch of men taking a break every 15 seconds ;-p
*Wishbone has been handed a yellow card*
Personally, I played football, but I love going to hockey games when I have the chance. It's probably the best sport ever devised. Near constant action, plenty of violence and sometimes you get an impromptu boxing match.
Plus, mullets.
