What exactly is this?

American football, 2012 National Football League American Conference championship game.

It's a game that we in America call "football."

It is not as good as real football.

OT: This guy missed a gimme play at the end of the game, resulting in his team's loss.

Shit happens. Yesterday, Arsenal lost narrowly to Man United due to error in substitution, which involved the substitute player contribute to Man United winning goal while they look like the winning side minutes before.

Unlike Soccer, Football involves actual play, rather than a bunch of men kicking the ball back and forth for hours on end.

Maybe in your opinion; I quite enjoy both, but prefer tha Nfl (American professional football). Especially during the playoffs.

I don't really like sports, but If I have to watch one sport, then I would go with American Football. Its way more tactical. It reminds me of a 4x game where you set everything up before the battle, and do you best to insure victory. When the actual battle comes though, you have no control. You just have to watch it unfold, and hope for the best. Everyone else is always going on about what players run the best, and who can throw the most accurate. I'm more interested in the whole planning aspect of it though. That's why I think American Football is more entertaining. The second best is Hockey. That's because I live in Michigan. In Michigan people actually care about Hockey.

Kind of a brutal game to watch. Exciting, but not pretty. What a shitty way to win/lose a game.

I will have to assume that your experience with soccer is somewhat limited. ;) Few games are tactically as diverse and challenging as soccer. Granted, from what I've seen of US soccer, tactics admittedly do often seem to take a backseat there ... ;)

This is unfortunately what a lot of Americans think about soccer, largely due to the World Cup. I played soccer as a kid and I used to believe this, too. Basically the problem is that the only real exposure that most Americans have to pro-level soccer, even casual soccer fans, is the World Cup. Which is essentially just an All-Star team that doesn't actually know how to play together. So all they do is pass, pass, pass, pass, for 90 minutes.

If you watch one of the European league games, your faith in pro-level soccer will be restored. Provided you actually LIKE soccer, that is. The gameplay is 1000 times better with an actual team rather than a bunch of huge egos bashing against one another. Is it better than American football, though? That's more a personal preference. Pro and college football can be very interesting and exciting, but it's starting to become more and more of a gladiatorial-style bloodsport than anything else, unfortunately.
