Brace yourself, Ned. The 2012 DRM-Free Holiday Sale is coming!

No, there's no release today. But there's a good reason: starting tomorrow, we'll be starting our winter season / festivus / celebration of your choice sale, and we know that you'll be thrilled about it.

What's the sale going to be? Well, we would hate to spoil the surprise early. But we'll be offering your favorite games for sale at prices that should warm even the grinchiest of hearts. While you're waiting, though, we've started some holiday celebrations--you know how we love to give you guys gifts--and you can enter into our week-long holiday-themed caption contests right here, if you're so inclined, or stay tuned for more holiday silliness in our forums as well as on [url=https://www.facebook.com/gogcom]Facebook, and Google+.

Tell your friends, hide your ducks, load the caravans, and get ready, because we're starting the gifting season early with a huge game giveaway tomorrow along with our sale, so you know you don't want to miss out. In the meantime, snuggle up in something warm, drink some eggnog, and we'll see you all tomorrow.

gameon: It's too newly released here on GOG to be given away for free.
But that's why it would be a BIG deal. If they give away an older game, most people who really want it will already have it. :)

I already have pretty much everything I need from the GOG catalog. Please use the holidays to bring more classics on so that I can save buying new old games.

Well despite the fact that i didn't have Fallout when they gave it away, it is very possible that a game most people have will be given out.

But i guess it is also possible for a newer release to be given away. It will be interesting to find out tomorrow anyway. It's like christmas before christmas begins.

It'd be cool if they just let you pick one $6-$10 game of choice from the catalog to get for free. Probably wouldn't happen because they'd need to clear it with every publisher in the site, but it'd be cool. :D

TheEnigmaticT: The business development team tells me I am a base liar, and we are releasing one *new* game and one *new-ish* game before the end of the year.
Hmm... a new game and a new-ish game. So... if we are to talk about the top 10 most wanted games in the Community Wishlist, here are those games in reverse order from 10 to 1:
10. Star Wars: TIE Fighter (guessing that includes expansions)
9. Diablo
8. Star Wars: X-Wing (again guessing that includes expansions)
7. Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge
6. The Secret of Monkey Island
5. Full Throttle
4. The Curse of Monkey Island
3. System Shock 1
2. Grim Fandango
1. System Shock 2

So, if we are to talk about the term "new-ish", then I am guessing we're talking 1998 and later. And if we're talking 1998+, then that leaves only Full Throttle, Grim Fandango, and System Shock 2 on that list (I'm NOT counting the first 2 MI games' remakes in this list, I'm talking original release here).

And since SS2 is pretty much not gonna happen unless an act of God or a Christmas miracle happens, that leaves GF and FT. None of those will release, unless GOG / CD Projekt has secretly gotten Disney and LucasArts onboard and hasn't told anyone yet. So, maybe LA and Disney will be the "new" and "new-ish" games (the "new" game being Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two and the "new-ish" game being Full Throttle or Grim Fandango), but that seems pretty unlikely.

TheEnigmaticT: In anticipation for the huge spike in traffic tomorrow, we've taken offline some features that add a lot to the server load. This will be turned back on Friday or Saturday. :)
So essentially the "huge spike in traffic" tomorrow is even more so than the usual holiday sale server load? So my LucasArts / Disney theory may still hold firm??

cyboff: It must be something HUUUGE then, not "just a huge sale"... something like release of game from all-time top 10 of community wishlist :D
(I read what you wrote about releases, but who believes you? Not me... :D)
Yeah, if it is HUUUGE, then it'll be a release from the all-time top 10 (conveniently referenced above). All of those releases seem unlikely, but miracles DO tend to happen this time of year. ;)

Lol, now that's wishful thinking. Although perhaps it could work if for example, with the interplay bundle they did, all the games were in a selection. So a choice of one free game from a small selection could be do-able. People would still probably complain though.
Very nice, early sales! Whole catalogue up to 50% perhaps? And some bundle deals per dev/eloperpublisher, if i can ask.; ? Thank you kindly.
Maybe they'll be doing a tiered sale, where if you buy more games the % off each is greater. For example, buy two games, get them 30% off. Buy five games, get them 60% off.

TheEnigmaticT: And possibly DRM-free pizza. But the last is unconfirmed.* ;)

*no, there's no DRM-free pizza.
avatar
te_lanus: Shouldn't it be GM-free pizza?
It should at least be GMO-free pizza

kalirion: So for the next couple days I should be careful to avoid buying any games I already own? Noted.
Games which you already own will remain highlighted as such on both product pages as well as in the checkout, so there is no risk of accidentally buying something that you already own :)
