The End Might be Near*. Better Play Some Games!

We don't really know if the Mayans were right
Will the 21st be the Earth's final night?
If it really is, we know we'd want to be
Spending our last hours enjoyably

The end of the world, and the bundles we bring
Are a wondrous package--an incredible thing
All the daily deals for the whole month today shine
We've even brought ones from the future in asynchronous time

Of all of the days of the year 2012
This is the one for gamers just like yourselves
To pick up some games before the world ends
And spend your last day having fun times with friends

Some say the world ends in fire--or ice
We think that neither ending sounds nice
If the world has to end--neither frozen nor flaming
The world should end in a way that says: gaming!

There's and [url=https://secure.gog.com/gamecard/the_witcher_2]Witcher, and and [url=https://secure.gog.com/gamecard/duke_nukem_3d_atomic_edition]Duke
And Deus Ex, , or [url=https://secure.gog.com/gamecard/thief_gold]Thief
So before the world leaders launch thousands of nukes
Spend a few moments and suspend disbelief

Theme Hospital, , [url=https://secure.gog.com/gamecard/caesar_3]Caesar 3 and Trine
It sure was nice living, but we're just out of time
Ultima Games, from 1 to game 9
The aliens are invading--we must hold the line!

, [url=https://secure.gog.com/gamecard/wing_commander_1_2]Wing Commander, and indie FTL
Crusaders and Heroes of Magic and Might
The end is approaching boys; see you in hell
Bruce Willis can't save us from this meteorite

Quests for Kings and for Space and for Heroes and Glory
and [url=http://www.gog.com/promo/telltale_adventures]Telltale
The abyss is erupting--this will surely be gory
Frogs are raining down in amphibious hail

The world may be ending, our last day is nigh
So take this last chance to play games 'till you die!

*GOG.com in no way endorses The End of The World. We like it here. If you have a Death Star, a Death Ray, or a fleet of Cyber T-rexes with Lasers, please don't destroy the Earth right now. At least wait until we release that game that everyone's waiting for. And that one, too. No, that one probably will never happen.
Can't help but notice http://www.gog.com/promo/indie_rpgs went from Pick and Mix to 75% or 50% only, AND added Divnity 2. Very interesting.
Thanks to how things are packaged and which games I already own from other services, I only ended up picking one more game. A lot of games I want, but most I could only get 50% on and it wasn't quite enough :(
Huh, I have to say I got scared, because my wallet cant afford all these games.... BUT, I hate it when I go to the steampunk bundle, uncheck Deus Ex, because I do not want it and I have to pay more :( For that reason I did not buy a single on today's promo. Or previous days. I will probably buy a game or two by 3rd January, but I really hate 75% all or 50% single crap. Also, I have to many games :P.

Great offers though.
Just jumped on Steam to remove The Witcher 2 from my wishlist funny that they want the full price but I picked it up here for a steal.
This is amazing. Almost overwhelming.

Some of the bundles that we're seeing today for the first time during the sale - will those pop up later in the next couple weeks?

I wonder what other promos will be going on until Jan 3.

These are all but 1-2 of the bundles that will be on sale until Jan. 3. Baldur's Gate 2 will be on sale some time (unkown when) and at least 1 more. So you will be seeing the deals again (at least the ones that haven't already been done before).

Pretty much says it all.
Ah, fantastic. Thanks for the replies.
Whooo... what a huge main site at once... I think I need a moment to get through this huge sale and figure out if I buy something and what. I'm sure some games will be added to my shelf in the next hour. Great deal - and nice announcement :-)

Pelmenji: To all those nagging about the 75% thing:

I don't really understand this complaining about how you "only" get 50% off when not buying the whole bundle.
Well let me explain.

avatar
Pelmenji: First off, games on GOG are realatively low priced in general.
That's wrong. The first two Oddworld games are $6 each on GOG. On Steam they are $2.50 each. Could buy both on Steam for less than the price on GOG. Then off course Steam has the Oddbox. Plenty of the games are available at the same price on other vendors. Grimrock is available on Steam, GOG, and direct from the Dev for the same base price. There are some games that are cheaper on GOG like Postal 2 which is $5 more on Steam. GOG isn't relatively low priced, they are priced averagely. Mostly the same, some lower some higher.

avatar
Pelmenji: On top of that, here you get that already low price halved for almost every game for 3 weeks. I'd call that a pretty good deal. And as a special deal, if you buy the whole bundle you get the price halfed again. That's enough to make the whole bundle cheaper than if you leave one or two games out.
I don't get your point. During Steam sales most of their games are 50% off. During Gamergate's sales they have a lot of 50% off games. Amazon has a lot of 50% off games. GOG's special deals may be 75% off a bundle, but Steam, Gamersgate, and Amazon's special deals are 75% off specific games (a lot more than gog) and when they have sales on bundles. the bundle already had a special price to begin with. Using the Oddbox as an example again, if you bought the base games individually they would cost $20, but the bundle costs $15. Those are both without any discounts. GOG doesn't do that with their bundles. So they would take 75% off of the $20 price while Steam would take it off the $15 price.

avatar
Pelmenji: And now you're saying that this is still not enough of a discount.
Well considering that the discounts are less than the competition's and I can go to get games cheaper there. Yeah, it's not enough to convince me to buy from GOG.

avatar
Pelmenji: "It would be better if they had every single game on 75% off than just the whole bundle" This is quite ungrateful, and in my opinion even insolent. You know who else, when given something nice, bluntly ask for more instead of saying "thank you"? Little children who have yet to learn good manners.
Ah, the ad hominem. You know who really asks for a greater discount than is currently offered? A customer who feels the price is too high. GOG is not entitled (I hate using this word) to anyone's money. If they decide the price is too high they are not "little children who have yet to learn good manners" they are being responsible consumers.

avatar
Pelmenji: "But there are games in the bundle I'm not interessted in / I don't want all those extra games in my library"
Like I said before, even if you leave out a few games (up to half the relative value of the games!), the bundle is still cheaper. So what's the worst thing that can happen if you buy the whole bundle? You have games lying around in your library. But what can happen, and I think that this is one of the (ulterior) motives behind this, is that you try out new games you wouldn't have normally bought.
Well the worst that can happen is that one pays more than they could have at a competing site as they are having to purchase games that they don't want to get the 75% off discount while other sites do not require that.

avatar
Pelmenji: So stop being such cheapskates, it's not like you're getting ripped off.
Another ad hominem.
Again, GOG is not entitled to a consumer's money. If one decides the prices are too high that doesn't make them a cheapskate and they are free to wait until the price is what they feel is appropriate or buy from someone else.

Now, GOG could probably get away with this with older games as there isn't much competition there. Apparently based on a quick search GOG is the only one selling the Gabriel Knight games (checked amazon, steam, GG) so they could easily do it with those games, but when it comes to newer games they are either going to have to sell the games for the same price as elsewhere or lose sales to the competition that is selling the game cheaper.

MoP: Gonchi got his "Horror and Mystery Quest" bundle then :)
My first reaction was "Someone actually listened to me?" and then I bought it, of course.
So there are 21 total promo/bundle pages today.

And the sale goes for 22 days.

It's probably a good guess that anything that was already a daily promo won't repeat, unless they do an encore on the last day.

3 of the games are singles that were grouped, so 19 bundles. I assume no repeat day with today's mega sale, That leaves 2 days with I assume 3 games each day. If Baulder's Gate 2 is one of them that leaves 5 games left.

jpolastre: <glances at Witcher2 75% off once again>
Oh come on GOG, tempting me once wasn't enough?

(...must not... add... to cart...)
Why not? The Witcher 2 is a great game offering hours of addictive gameplay and $8 for such a relatively new game is a really low price.

So, just give in to your temptation. *waves hand* You want this game.
*dark voice* "Search your feelings. You know it is true."

Leroux: ...
I was kind of hoping there would be a discount on Deponia 2, too. Not 75%, maybe even less than 50% but at least some. I'm still kind of sore about their move to add the German language only after the initial discount was over. Don't tell me it wasn't calculation.

Since TWW and Dark Eye are available only as translations and I already have all the other games, I much preferred buying A New Beginning for 50% off.
Oh I wasn't checking the languages, thought it's only whispered world, but also dark eye not available in german. Yes, that's sad.
