Santa came early!

Duke Nukem 3D: Atomic Edition, the legendary FPS in which the Earth's greatest hero provides a steady flow of bullets and badass one-liners, is available on GOG.com, for the low price of one smile, for the next 48 hours. That's not all. For the first time in history, this supreme space-alien slaughter simulation is also available on Mac!

The Mayans have warned us: the world is in grave danger. Some think it's going to be a giant meteor, a solar storm, a super-volcano, or a lethal plague. But the gamers of planet Earth know better than that! That's right. We know the real truth. We're onto you, space-aliens. We've seen through your plot. Pretending that you don't exist, hiding your massive fleet near Uranus, and planning to strike on 12.21.12. So you think you can invade our planet and live to tell the story to your slimy bug-eyed grandmaggots? Well, think again. We've got Duke Nukem. And what have you got? Lasers? Plasma cannons? Mutant beasts? Deathrays? You make us laugh. Ha. Ha.

Have you seen Duke Nukem 1+2, the classic run-and-gun platformers? That's how the legend began. Just a few years later, its successor Duke Nukem 3D became a milestone in the development of the FPS genre, and an unquestioned highlight in its protagonist's career. Never before and never after have we witnessed such an unprecedented mix of explosive action, comedic brilliance, and sheer badassdom. In the department of pure awesomeness, Duke Nukem 3D holds the crown, and so it shall be--forever. With creative level design, memorable foes, unique weapons, and an iconic outspoken hero, this game is a true monument to gaming fun. The Atomic Edition lets you duke it out even longer, as it contains the bonus fourth episode, complete with a new weapon and previously unseen enemies!

Now you can witness all the badass FPS magnificence of Duke Nukem 3D: Atomic Edition for free, both on Windows and (for the first time ever!) on Mac OSX, so come get some! Hurry up, though--the offer won't last FOREVER. In fact, WHEN IT'S DONE, it's done. That will be Friday, December 14, at 14:59 GMT.

Happy atomic holidays from GOG.com team!

HiPhish: Argh, so this is what it feels like when they give away a game you already own -.- Well, anyone who doesn't already have it should better get it right now, awesome game!
They usually give away games that I already own. I haven't actually gotten a freebie from GOG in a very long time. (Well, if you discount the freebies for doing stuff) I'll have to look at my library, but I'm not sure I've ever gotten one of the Christmas ones as I always own the game they've given away.

But, enough about that TET explained it last year. I don't really like it, but I can understand that the publishers have a say in the matter.

mrking58: Why do I have a feeling that Duke Nukem 3D will be apart of a million giveaways in the near future?
You can't gift it, unless you buy it. So, I'm not really sure why that would be the case. I wish that they would at least let us gift the thing if we already own it.

I realize that it's not really GOG's fault, but it gets a bit old continually being left out of these Christmas giveaways.

EDIT: Never mind, sneaky Mr. GOG.

Oh, memories. It was last year's free Christmas game that brought me here. Today marks one year on the site. :D

Anyway, thanks for the free game. I only ever had fairly marginal interest in Duke, so this is good since I wasn't really planning on buying it at any point in the future.

You can, just choose "gift this game to a friend" and then enter your own email adress, then you'll receive the gift code. I did it myself, might trade it in for something else in the future or gift it to someone who missed this opportunity.

Awesome :)

Hey so what about the rest of the games @ 50% off? Is that ending on the 14th too or is that solid until 3 January?
Thanks! I never did play through through Duke Nukem and now I can!
Thank you GOG! I'll gift some poor bloke later. =D
Wow! DN3D Free! Great Christmas present for those who still don't have it. A bit frustrating for the rest of us but hey... we had our fun (again) before the others. It would've been nice if we (DN3D owners) got something else as a holiday freebie, like the first DN titles. :)

Yeah, unfortunately, GOG has to get permission from the publisher, even if GOG pays the cost of the royalties to give things away.

At least we get to gift the game to somebody else at some point in the future. I just wish they would have some alternative available for those of us that own large portions of the catalog.
Hmm, just installed this and the new installer didn't give me the option to use my own DOSBox... that's kind of annoying.
