First thought, terrible name.
There's already a fairly ugly TBS game with that name that has been bundled several times.

Thank you, we are currently using Hive just as the project name. The final name will be announced when the trademark has been registered!
Hive is now the most popular concept on Steam. Keep the feedback coming people!
Looks interesting, but what is the objective for the bugs? Do they act like the Zerg from StarCraft? Will there be a way to accelerate game speed?

I also agree that the name should be changed. "Hive" is too common of a name. Does the bug race have a name for itself? Maybe that should be the name for the game.
Looks promising, from what I saw . You guys gonna try to bring it to GOG ?
It looks like an RTS. The only RTS game I ever liked was Myth.

However, this looks interesting if:

You support Windows XP and directx9
You set up gameplay to work without a hud.
You let players customize controls and include support for gamepads (like the xbox 360 controller).

There are other games with the name hive, like the board game (and it's videogame counterpart) and a first person shooter for the PS3. I don't know if that would cause problems.

Other alternative names are:
Swarm (although there's an xbox live arcade game with that name)
Hoard (although there's already a game with that name too)
Drones (like most warrior bees are drones and live in a hive).
Hive-mind
Drove

You want to play an RTS... with a gamepad?

Short answer: yes.

Long answer:
Yes, so I can comfortably play on my 54" tv. If the game is made to fully support a gamepad, it could work well. Of course, it would have to be streamlined. It wouldn't work well if you have a huge inventory, complex hud, or require uber-precise pixel perfect precision. I don't get into many RTS games because they feel unnecessarily complex. I liked Myth because it was pure combat with no inventory, no hud, and no resource management. They could add a little more to those other areas and simplify combat a bit with good results too.
What is the purpose of the game? Expansion?

Is the music from the you tube video actual game music? It was a good selection

That's because you never played sacrifice.
But Myth was/is one of the greatest, no beef here.

Hey, IronArcturus

There are three major faction in the game: Insectoids (Player), Humans (Heaven) and fiendish demon like Progenitors (Hell). Wildlife creatures and Ancients are also part of the Eden population, those lizardmen/skeletons you can see on the video, are part of perished civilization.

As you start the game, first of the insectoid species are spawned into the world. First they just want to learn and adapt to the world, survive. They can gain knowledge by defeating thousands of year old creatures called the ancients. As the creature dies, insectoids have ability to salvage "orb of knowledge" that contains all the information, memories and experiances the ancient creature had encountered during it's long life on Eden. After couple of missions the main story arc starts.

We already have final name for the game, i just cant announce it yet because of the trademark registeration process. But i'm sure you will like it. It's much better than the common "Hive" name.

Keep the questions coming, i'd be happy to answer!

I like the words on Moddb regarding strong story telling and evolving units but how close is release date? One of the developers wrote early alpha and that was February 19th.
