Just a thread to raise awareness of these games, as I definitely think they deserve a place in GOG's hallowed halls. If nothing else, then for being the kind of honest and serious tactical game, that you would only find on the PC a decade ago - most of which have since been wiped out or perverted into movie-inspired nonsense.

I remember playing the first game, but I also remember getting kinda tired of it. The second one, for all it's weird design decisions was a real gem, of the same standard as EAs old SEAL Team. It had a tactical map that could be turned on and off during the game, essentially allowing you to plan and coordinate what you and your squad of fellow WW2 special forces were doing - Like a pausable Ghost Recon, using the actual 3D map for planning.

Featuring heavy weapons, long range rifles, lots of fancy silenced guns, and a genuine emphasis in using them all in specific situations, this game has all of my respect, and after recently digging it out after far too long, I thought I'd throw a penny in the GOG hat for it.

It deserves to be brought back, and while it isn't perfect by any measure of the imagination, it's ambitious in the way that used to make me happy to be a PC player, and I don't think it deserves to be condemned to obscurity.

I don't know if 2K still holds the rights, but I haven't heard otherwise.

Thanks for reading if you did. Consult your nearest GOG wishlist!

Also, major props to GOG for adding Swat 3. Excellent game.

I definitely agree. The Hidden & Dangerous games were/are awesome. The second is a lot better than the first one (I think so, anyways), but I feel more nostalgia over the first one. Amidst all the other games I play, I still like to get out the Hidden & Dangerous games and play them.
You can download the first one here for free
The first Hidden & Dangerous is available for free, it was released as a promotion for the release of the second H&D. While I've never played either of the games, I've often heard that it was one of the more difficult tactical games of the time, with some cheap AI. Perhaps someone could clear that up for me. I would definitely like to take the plunge in the game as it seems genuinely interesting.

The first is by no means easy, but that's not just because the game requires some planning and thought. The game is kind of clunky and some of the levels are almost stupidly hard. However, something about the game is just awesome. Plus, since the game is free, if you don't end up liking it, at least it didn't hurt your wallet.

Hidden & Dangerous 2 is somewhat difficult as well, but this is more because you need to be careful. The movement and control is better and the guns and aiming aren't too hard to get the hang of. Sometimes the game has problem with hit detection, and sometimes it does seem like the A.I. is cheating, but again, the game makes up for those shortcomings.

A note on both games, though, especially the second one: Keep an eye on each of your guys' ammo. The friendly A.I. will attack those nearby (unless you tell them not to), but they aren't exactly smart about it. They will shoot and shoot and shoot and shoot until the guy is either dead or your guy is out of ammo. This isn't usually too much of problem, but there were a few times I found out that some of my guys were out of ammo.

Thanks for the info, will be checking it out now. I'm getting interested in more tactical shooter games, want something more immersive than a standard run-and-gun.
I didn't know that! Great news! Thanks, you made my day, sir!

Damn you, as if I don't have enough games on my wishlist as we speak.
I prefer H&D2 to the first one. Just... something about it makes me like it more. Maybe it's the size of the levels. H&D1 felt smaller in scale.

Speaking of H&D2, I have the box right here in front of me! Maybe I should set up a LAN session with my bros, now that I have a brand new PC.
I prefer the first one. Ok, team AI is horrible, but the atmoshpere is so much darker than in the sequel. Even the very first mission, when you play at night, attack German outpost near railway bridge.. Awesome.

I agree that the first one beats the second in atmosphere, but when it comes to gameplay, the second ranks a little higher in my book. Maybe it's because I have never played another game that has such meaty weapons. Seriously, something about blasting a bad guy with the Lee Enfield, hearing that chunky boom and then watching the awesome ragdoll effects take over... There's nothing quite like it.

I loved playing the first one in co-op on a LAN.
It could be pretty hard from time to time, but not as unfairly as the first Rainbow Six game.
But the thing I remember most about it is dying after stepping off a little three stairs stairway (the one near the bridge in the first level).
It was both funny and a bit Canadian Bacon-like.. and annoying because we had to restart the mission :P
Sweet, didn't know that the first game was available for free. Remember playing it on DC while back
Every time someone mentions H&D1, I swear my brain starts to cry. I made it through, but not unscarred... If the AI was a person, I'd love to strangle him a few times.
I bought it at Gamestop last year for a dollar. Not kidding. (the second one)
