2011 has been a fantastic year for GOG.com, let's make it even better and make the last push to achieve the 6 million unique downloaded games milestone.

During our presentation at the CD Projekt Fall 2011 Conference we've shared some numbers that show how successful this year was for GOG.com, all that was possible thanks to you - our great community. One of the big milestones we'd like to celebrate with you is the 6 million unique downloaded games! Help us achieve this number and we'll launch a time-limited special offer for all GOG.com users!

Note that when we say "unique games downloaded," that means redownloading games that you have already downloaded before won't increment the counter.

When the counter on the main page of the website hits 6 million, two exciting things will happen. First off, the lucky user who downloaded our 6 millionth unique game will receive everything that's currently in the catalog, absolutely free! Secondly, everyone who has an account on GOG.com will be able to download Broken Sword: Shadow of The Templars Director’s Cut for free, thanks to Sir Charles Cecil and Revolution Software. The offer will be valid only for 48 hours starting from hitting the milestone, so be sure to check GOG regularly or follow us on and [url=https://www.facebook.com/gogcom]Facebook. Let's get cracking to unlock this achievement as soon as possible - it's all in your hands now!
Does it count if you download bonus content?

Buddy_Bert: Does it count if you download bonus content?
No.
As expected the pace has increased. With less than 2000 downloads left it's up to 0.48 (I assume a second).

So who has bought a pile of games and downloaded them to an inch short of full and will soon start downloading the last few megabytes? :D :D

As it's download initiated, that strategy won't do you any good.
I think it will reach 6 mill in about an hour.

I don't suppose we get a substitute gift if we already own Broken Sword? xP
If so, I'd probably pick the Betrayal at Krondor pack, since the price is the same as Broken Sword.

Pretty sure I read it was downloads completed. If not, it will be even easier to try to spam in a lot of games to the counter just before deadline. Harder when we needed completed downloads.

In order to prevent The Enigmatic T's vengeance, I'll say right away that the answer is a resolute NO! They are merely dropping the price to free for 48 hours and not giving it away automatically as they did last year.

Post about downloads starting
Summary of facts known
What if the winner already own more than 150 games from the catalogue ? Is it possible to gift away the second copies ?

Will we get a new release as a bonus if the counter reach the 6 million ?

Nah not likely, it'd be a simple database script to mark every game for the winning account as being owned, if the cell already says the game is owned it'd just be skipped (or deleted and replaced with the word owned again)

That post really addresses the "does it count if I own it" point. But he seems to imply the counter increases when people start to download rather than when they have finished downloading it. Suppose that's easier to code.

Means I'm deffo out of the running though. Have a game that will be done downloading in 15-20 mins. Probably too late anyway if it was completed download.

Ah well. Will at least get a game for free (which I probably wont' play for years, if ever).
Obvious fake counter hardcoded to hit 6M @ release time on thursday.

That aside, I look forward to teh surpirz.
Does it count it as downloads initiated or completed?

Thank god for that. So many topics about deleting games from the shelf, you can't even force people a free gift these days. :)
