CowboyBebop: Here's some anime characters that I drew. They looked better before I scanned them with my handheld scanner. I think they turned out alright. Sometimes I try to draw something and the end result ends up looking almost completely different than the original.

EDIT: The other 3 pictures aren't showing up. They are there when I go to edit my post though. Weird.

Don't know if anyone mentioned this but an artist friend of mine said "pattern recognition" - it's easier to draw in parts than to try to draw the whole.

My solution (as I also can't draw) was to go another route to the finished picture:

www.daz3d.com - get Daz Studio (basic version free) and use premade 3D models (some free some expensive from various sites) to put together what's in your mind. It's harder than it sounds and takes practice and building skill through following tuts and experimenting). It's not just a case of plonking stuff down in a scene and hitting 'render'. You need to become adept at lighting, posing and composition, surfaces and altering textures/shaders to suit but it's easier for some people than drawing freehand stuff (though I usually do postwork in GIMP it's not usually of the drawing variety)

It's how I put together my comic (along with comicLife for that comic-look for the better, later episodes)(earlier ones done in GIMP, which can do better but my skills weren't up to it)

Click on "Trollum Thinks" for the first lot, after "The Death of Trollum" it gets better in terms of using ComicLife for presentation and also it's time to read "Trollum Finds a Girl" which is even better in terms of story/jokes (but you need to read at least that much of Trollum Thinks first to get the characters).

lol i am reading it right now and i think Trollum is a genuinly good creation of a charakter, the idea is good and unique, and i just got a good laugh out of episode 7 (the whole second page) xD

The author of the web comic/manga Megatokyo, Fred Gallagher, will often stream his comic creation process online, including drawing and hatching. You could probably learn from him.

There are many ways that one can improve their art skills. Here are some methods that I think are pretty good.

1.Go to a book store or library and try and find books that teach how to draw. Try and find books that are good for your current skill level though. If you try drawing from a book that is for more advanced artists, you could find yourself easily frustrated with drawing. The best way to learn drawing from books is to follow the lessons and copy the drawings in the book until you feel comfortable drawing them.

2.On the Internet, there are many videos of artists who draw drawings from start to finish. Watching these videos may show you; how to start a drawing, techniques to improve the look of your drawing, or methods to easily draw complex objects.

3.Have another artist teach you. This can be done several ways, but probably the best way is to take an art class (if you have the money that is). Another artist will more than likely teach you with hands-on training. They will also be able to see the mistakes you make and either teach you how to correct them, or avoid them altogether.

The most important things to remember about improving your drawing skills is that practice makes perfect and that you should also have fun with drawing.

Thats a lot of good 3D software for free. I think you've just made my day!!
Not completely relevant but look at what I made in school in photoshop when I was bored! (Pepek 1 was made by me, through editing and some patience. Other pictures are same as first except for little bit tweaking with effects) and don't mind the picture numbers, some were just tests.

Nice work. Since you enjoy pixel based work and games let me suggest allowing GOG to give you some artwork assignments. Every week GOG releases two or more games. You never know till release day what games are going to be released . . . usually anyway.

Find cover images for the releases and remove old publishers, ratings, media type, etc. The cover images can be found on MobyGames or just by Googling for them. Some games have several different covers which would be a bigger challenge to edit all versions. Every game uses a different "type" of artwork, some realistic . . . some cartoonish.

Bring the finished cover image up to 300 dpi @ 3" x 4" with all offending image data removed. You can use multiple images, edit the area directly, clone image data, use vector tools to redraw . . . anything you want . . . just have the finished image look as if the artist just finished the artwork and the marketing dept has not gotten their hands on it yet.

This would give you some interesting random assignments and combine two of your interests. See attached for an example of what I am suggesting . . . =)

Edit: Finding high quality images to work with will be one of your biggest challenges.
