Raze_Larian: If you replace the inventory files with ones from an unpatched game, it eliminates the conflict trying to re-save in the download version.

If you want to keep your current equipment, burn the bik files to CD/DVD so the disk version can find/play the cutscene videos.

oh, so I should have replaced the files in my save before I loaded it... ok, that makes sense :) but I think the easiest solution would be to use the emulator :)

thank you a lot again, I really appreciate your help! unfortunately I won't have a chance to try it again until Sunday... hope it works! :o)

Kunovski: I threw all the items on the ground so that my inventory is empty and tried to save but the game crashed again :(

Raze_Larian: It is not a particular item or items causing the problem, but something in the file format. Even if you drop what you are carrying and have equipped, the game still keeps track of it. Items on the ground are stored in the world.* files, but stats on equipment are still listed in the items.000 file, and dropping items doesn't effect the inv.* files which store the contents of chests and other containers.

ok, no matter how I tried to use the emulation and create the iso, the game still won't load it to play the video (might be a different path you've mentioned earlier, or it searches for the DVD on a different drive, not sure...), but the "inv" package you've provided works like a charm with the GOG version so I will be able to finish the game now hopefully!

thanks again for your awesome help!!!

The DVD may be named something like 'LARIAN_DIV', rather than 'LARIAN_DIV3' and the install files may not be separated into disc1/2/3 folders, as they were for the 3 CD version.
If you have a hex editor you may be able to determine the expected disk name and path by examining the div.exe file. If you want you can zip and email that file to me (raze@larian.com); I've got original and updated CD releases of DD, and multiple digital releases, but no DVD version.
Alternately, if you installed the CD version patch the game would look for the CD version Play CD for the cutscene videos.

IMO it would be better to better to get a working substitute for the DVD, though. If you zipped the entire Divine Divinity folder (about 1.7GB excluding saves) and burnt it to DVD with the appropriate name and path for the cutscene videos, you could play the disk version and re-install it in the future if you wished.

unfortunately I only have the "div.exe" from the no-cd crack (the original was rewritten) so I don't think this would help much... also, the solution you've suggested is working quite fine so far :)

once I finish the game I can always try playing it again from scratch using only the GOG version (oh, the shiny new resolution options! :o) and no old saved games will be necessary, so... thanks again! even though I've clearly broke some rules using the crack on your game you still helped me solve this issue and finish the game, and thus you've gained my complete adoration :D (I've bought the original two parts here on GOG too and I already bought Divinity II twice, so hopefully I made it up to you!)

thank you, and have a lovely 2012-2013 crossing!
