HereForTheBeer: Was #3 a hex-based resource-gatherer with a set number of turns per map? I can think of one but the name escapes me.
I was wondering about that too. It sounds like it could be MissionForce: CyberStorm. I think it had some verbal tutorials. But it was a really fun mech game! Please vote for it on the GOG Wishlist!
That game appears to be pretty sweet. Sadly, not available that I can tell.

It's on Gamersgate, DRM-free , along with it's sequel Massive Assault: Phantom Renaissance .

tinyE: 4) System Shock 1or 2 or Dead Space.

OOOps ninjad, a while ago. :P

Smannesman: SS definitely fits the description to a T, I think.
I remember those "I'm SORRY" zombies scaring me a few times.
Can't really think of anything else that would fit the bill, ZPC popped into my mind and Marathon, but that wasn't ported 'till 2007 or something.
And Rebel Moon Rising, but none of those had zombies in them as far I can remember.
4 - System Shock 2 without doubt.
Many, many thanks to all those that have contributed so far.
#2 cannot be Deathspank: it's too recent! I ask lugum: do you remember exactly that scene in Silver, too?
#3 could very well be Massive Assault; that's the first game I thought about as well. I searched for a video of the tutorial on the Internet but unfortunately couldn't find it; that would be the seal on the matter. But if some of you owns the game and can confirm there is voice over, we can be pretty sure that's the one; I don't think there are many turn-based strategy games with that feature. (BTW: that's a game I really would like to be on GOG, seems a good one).
#5: yes it's Tzar! You nailed it! I remember this ugly fellow :) (and it's already here... another one to add to the wishlist and backlog!)
#4: after looking at some screenshots, Doom 3 seems a very good suggestion, I seem to recall that graphical style. SS2 maybe is a bit too old to be the game.
#1: I took a look at some screenshots and now I'm inclined to think it could be Starsiege. Actually I seem to remember that the game looked a bit old at the time, and those circular dials strike something in me...

IronArcturus: The first 1) game sounds like it could be from Shogo: Mobile Armor Division in the first level. Shogo is a really fun mech/FPS game and it's on GOG!
I played Shogo, it's not that! Actually I started it years ago but never finished it, I have already bought it from GOG and must absolutely find the time to start it again and complete it!

Already voted!

mmm "Sign of Darkness" maybe?

cose_vecchie: 1) a first-person mech game; it took place around some planetary base, under a dark sky, and the planet surface was covered in snow.
One of the Mechwarrior games, probably. Hopefully 4, or else what would have in 2000 been a slightly old-school trip to MW2 Mercenaries. Those are both excellent games if you like the fighting mech genre, and worth playing if you haven't, even if that's not the answer. :P

cose_vecchie: 5) a real-time or turn-based strategy game set in a fantasy world, with top-down view, where you had to build villages, gather resources etc. The only detail that stands out in my memory is that there were little portraits in a very distinctive, almost grotesque style, maybe in the top-left corner. For some strange reason I seem to recall that this was a Russian game. (note: it's not AoW).
Disciples series, by any chance?

I am inclined to think the old-school trip was to Starsiege, as i wrote in my previous post. I do like the mech sim genre and I am pretty sure those MechWarrior games are excellent, in fact I would definitely buy them if only they were sold on GOG.

This has surely been identified as Tzar with the help of Mondkalb. BTW, I played Disciples 2 and, just like Shogo, I have it on GOG and I am waiting the right moment to pick it up again.

cose_vecchie: ...Starsiege...
I was going to say it might be Starsiege. If you got very far in it, you'd use these green weapons a lot. And a wingman would often sing "I found my thrill. I blueberry hill." It still gets stuck in my head from that game. :)

Yeah, that last post of mine was a case of post first, read second. I should know better. Sorry :/

No problem. On my part, I should have edited the first post. Done that.

EDIT: could be Starsiege
Must be Earthsiege or Earthsiege 2.

Maybe, but I think they're just too old to qualify. I am fairly confident it was Starsiege and at this point I don't think I can reach a greater degree of certainty, I don't remember much unfortunately.

cose_vecchie: 2) a hack-and-slash game with cartoonish graphics. The only thing that I remember is that at one point, goblin-like monsters kept coming in until you killed one of them who was calling the others with a trumpet.
EDIT: probably Silver, awaiting confirmation
I can remember that part as well, and correctly it should be Silver.

OK, thank you. First post edited.
Now, if only someone could confirm Massive Assault... I would declare the thread closed.

In case you're curious, this video shows one of them blowing its horn.
