hi guys, i've been searching for this game for a long time now and have seen similar threads here, hope you can help

it is a 2d platformer/shooter with side perspective, on pc, i've played it in the early 00s on widows 98 but i'm pretty sure it came out (way) before the year 2000

you are some guy (maybe half-robot??) that wakes up on an operating table in some lab and starts killing everybody; you beat the level by getting a keycard and opening a door which takes you to the next part of the complex (afaik no levels take place outside)

there are of course different weapons, but i can only remember a flamethrower which made the mobs run around as human torches with waving hands before crumbling to dust

you can kill defenseless scientists who roam the levels (a nice touch was that one hit from the weakest gun makes them fall to their knees and it takes one more to finish them off); it has some gore as you might expect from the description so far

maybe it had "urban" in its name but i'm really not sure... (and it certainly isn't Abuse, the opponents are strictly human, and the graphics are somehow brighter if we go to compare the two, though they felt a bit close)

Maybe it's Genocide?

Can you remember whether it was dos or windows?

well i am sure i played it on windows but that doesn't really tell us that much
again if i refer to abuse as an example it had both win and dos versions;
i don't remember if the mouse was used at all in the game

Sounds a lot like the first System Shock.
Or maybe BioForge.

it's not any of these, as i said in the first post it is a sidescroller, not 3d or 2,5d, so most are misses by far
