Hi GoG Community!

I would like some help finding an FPS engine...

In full, I want, preferably a free engine (or free for non-commercial use), and I would like the quality to be about Halo-ish or better. The levels would be industrial, but some would be set in a city.

I am looking for an alternative to:

Unreal Development Kit
CryEngine 3
Unity 3D

Thanks in advance,

sloganvirst ;-)

EDIT: Oh yeah, I would prefer if it didn't have too much scripting involved.
EDIT Again: Oh yeah, if it would make it more clear, I want to for a single player RPG/FPS

Try OGRE 3D, or NeoAxis

Ok, checking them out now...

Thanks.

EDIT: I think Ogre 3D is just what I was looking for! Thanks! \
EDIT2: However, there is a problem; I don't know C++. :-(
EDIT3: I will keep looking, but if there is nothing else than I will probably use NeoAxis.

I think Ogre also has wrappers for C#, Python and Java, check the wiki

What languages do you know?

Here's another site listing quite a few engines and libraries

Well, not many. I know some Unreal Script from modding Deus Ex, I don't know C#, Python, or Java, I was hoping their might be something that didn't really require much scripting, only a little bit. I will look at the site you linked and see what they have.

Yes, I was interested in Cube 2 engine, but is it free? If so, is it free for non commercial use, and if not that either, what is it's license?

Thanks,

It's the GPL engine that Nexuiz/ Xonotic use.

That looks to be what I am looking for, but, do you know how much coding is involved?
Speaking from experience, XNA is really easy to use, but you're stuck with Windows/Xbox360 as platforms. Requires some coding skill, but not as much as Ogre.

To really customise things the way that you want, you're probably going to have to learn some programming.

Cube 2 is released under zlib, which is GPL-compatible.

What is XNA? I am not that worried about what platform it is on either...
What are the graphics like?

Ah, ok. That one looks promising, but I will keep looking

Oh yeah, if it helps, I am not too worried about multiplayer aspect either. :-)

What's wrong with Unreal 3? It's free for non-commercial use, as far as I know.

Well, I would go for it, but it doesn't run on my computer. I get like 3 frames per second.
I would go for Unreal Engine 2 if it was for download, as I have a couple of games built on that engine and they run great, but the only free version was so stripped down I got nothing to work with. And besides, I am not sure I want it to be a non-commercial engine now.

I downloaded it, gonna try it, but one thing I was wondering; can I test my project on my Xbox 360 for free, or does it require the subscription to Xbox Live or something like that?
