Neobr10: It looks like your PC got hit really hard by malware. I personally recommend formatting the drive and starting it all over again. If it were a simple trojan or low risk virus a simple AV check would solve the issue. But considering the fact that you can't even remove them and random tabs keep opening i really recommend wiping the drive.

No AV will ever have 100% perfect detection rate, so even if you manage to remove most of the nasty viruses, something might still get past detection. Yes, formatting is a pain in the ass, but i really think it's better to be safe than sorry, especially if that's the PC you use to buy stuff online (like from GOG).

By the way, which AV were you using before you got infected? Good AV programs can detect a malicious file before you open it.
I use Norton, but I downloaded several different files at once before it had a chance to scan them all. I've used emulators before, but I installed this one before I did any research on it.

If these scans don't work, how do I format and how do I restore from the format?

Do not format your HD. Formatting your HD is not necessary..That means you will lose everything. I would suggest running MalwareBytes in safe mode. Safe mode will not allow these viruses to load and effect its operation.

There is no restoring from a format. Your data will all be gone. If you do decide to format however make sure you save all your important data ..email files..favorites..documents..whatever you want to keep to a CD or DVD.

I have has several viruses..and I have always been able to clean my PC. Its not like it is delete proof. Its just another file on your HD somewhere. You just need the right scanner to find it.

Well, there shouldn't be any problem if you had downloaded the emulator from the official site.

Well, i have never used Norton myself, but i have heard bad things about it. I personally use Kaspersky, but i don't know if i would recommend it to you. It's a great AV (it has been considered to be the best AV many times already), but it's a resource-hog and it's not very user-friendly. You need to know what you're doing when using it because it picks up many false positives, especially the heuristic verification (for example, Kaspersky once picked up Left 4 Dead 2 as Keylogger).

But they do work. What i was trying to say is that there is a very small chance that the scan will not pick up everything. Most of the time it does, though.

after running both scanners (not at the same time) restart and do an scan with hijack and upload the file here (.txt) we will know if you are still infected or not

Jesus Christ, 100 bucks for a reformat? Damn, that's insane... find your windows disk buddy, or find a .iso backup on the web and burn in on some CD... 100 bucks, this guys know how to skin :)

Yes, do yourself a favor and stay away from Norton. The first thing you have to do after getting rid of these viruses is to get a better AV.

yup norton (in the past at least) was pretty bad, go for a free A/V like avira or avast, paid one kaspersky(my personal opion this is the best AV out there), nod32, avira, avast

Comodo is a very good firewall..antivirus..complete security program..and its free. Its what I use..Has served me well. I used to use McAfree and believe me Comodo is much better. I tried Avast also its not bad although I prefer Comodo..

And it still is according to the comparison on the link i posted. 89% detection rate (excluding false positives) is horrible when compared to the best AVs which have a 99%+ detection rate.

This however sounds like Malware not a virus. MalwareBytes is better at finding that kind of problem than any virus scanner. Did you make sure to download the latest defintion file. Popups..advertising and annoying Browser problems are not usually viruses.

Which virus scanner has a 99% detection rate...and are you actually reading an unbiased test or just one of the dozens of pages that are on the internet with false comparisons designed to convince people some product is better than another. Who wrote the article and did the test. I have seen page after page like that when I was doing research on which security software to use. Anybody can make a webpage...

By what he describes sounds like a nasty adware i doubt that can be cleaned with anything. Once it roots in hardly lets go :P

I ran the scans in safe mode. Kapersky found two files I knew were bad, but it wouldn't let me do anything cause I had no internet connection in safe mode. Malwarebytes somehow found nothing, even though I've run it every day since infection and it's constantly finding files. I used the hijackthis, but have no idea what to do now.

I don't remember for sure, but I think when I took my laptop in three years ago to remove problems it was around $80 at least.

put scan and save log file in hijack, what kaspersky told you when you try to delete those files?

Well my experience with that kind of malware is that it writes an entry in the registry that starts a program at Windows bootup that makes a new copy of the malware with a random name if you delete the old copy. Thats why they are so hard to get rid of.. You have to not only delete the malware, the companion program ..and also the regisrty entries. MalwreBytes however has been good for me at getting rid of that kind of malware. I have probably been infected with it at least 6-7 times when I was running McAfree.
