liquidsnakehpks: jeez the steam test came unexpected , steam offline mode failed miserably :X
heres what happened , one of the trees fell on the street , due to strong winds snapping my phone connection which took out the net , obliviously i had no chance to get online first and then go to offline mode so , steam never worked in offline mode, i was locked out of playing the game on steam:X . just blasted the steam support for this crap. YOU HAVE TO BE ONLINE TO GO OFFLINE MODE or else its epic fail , man who the f can figure out when such things happen :X

i have started to download the cracks for the games i have got , never late to learn a good lesson.

alright i can replicate what happened , try this and watch steam fail the offline mode
[
1) close steam.exe using ctrl + alt + del (end process tree) not exit ( my client crashed when the net got busted)
2) now turn off your net
3) try offline mode , regardless of your settings it will fail ]

sloganvirst: Hm, well I didn't have Steam running, so I started it up with my wireless turned off, it came up with a question of whether I wanted it to start it Offline mode, I clicked yes, it started up like normal, and I was just playing Garry's Mod.... is your client up to date?
ya offline mode works fine when you close the client properly but if you crash the client and try offline mode , its doomed

Ah.

I am downloading some games atm so I cannot do that.

But anyway, to all GoGgers - can I make Inno Setup change what the directory of a reg file is to whatever the installer is installing to?

This is the reg file:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ion Storm\Thief - Deadly Shadows]
"ION_ROOT"="C:\\Documents and Settings\\******\\Desktop\\Thief Deadly Shadows"
"SaveGamePath"="C:\\Documents and Settings\\*******\\Desktop\\Thief Deadly Shadows\\Save"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ion Storm\Thief - Deadly Shadows\SecuROM]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ion Storm\Thief - Deadly Shadows\SecuROM\Locale]
"ADMIN_RIGHTS"="Application requires Windows administrator rights."
"ANALYSIS_DISCLAIMER"=""
"ANALYSIS_DONE"="The Information was successfully collected and stored to the following file:\\n\\n"
"%FILE%"="\\n\\nPlease contact Customer Support for forwarding instructions."
"AUTH_TIMEOUT"="Unable to authenticate original disc within time limit."
"EMULATION_DETECTED"="Conflict with Disc Emulator Software detected."
"NO_DISC"="No disc inserted."
"NO_DRIVE"="No CD or DVD drive found."
"NO_ORIG_FOUND"="Please insert the original disc instead of a backup."
"TitleBar"="Thief: Deadly Shadows"
"WRONG_DISC"="Wrong Disc inserted. Please insert the Thief: Deadly Shadows disc into your CD/DVD drive."

I just want whatever I pick as the install directory to change this reg file to that directory.
I'm quite sure that with a nocd the securom entries are unnecessary.
Look up .reg file syntax somewhere. I think, there should be a way to tell the system to add a path entry relative to the path the reg file is run from, so that you can make a generic file that gets copied to the game installation folder and is triggered by the installer. Mind, XP and 7 use different paths for those games.
Can't inno just add stuff to registry itself?

That was actually what I mean (Get inno to add it to the reg), I just wanted to know how to make it add it in the install and still be relative to wherever the game is installed.

Another thought, why don't you just download the games from a torrent site and back that up?

Considering how wacky some anti-piracy laws are today, doing what you are trying might actually be considered piracy in the same vein....;-)

Can't.

With the New Zealand anti-piracy bill, you get caught for downloading torrents (or any copyrighted material) and after 3 warnings, you can get fined up to $15,000 and get your internet disconnected for 6 months. :-(

Is all this effort really worth it? Is it not possible to install Steam on your target system, copy the steamapps folder across and then go online once to authorise before switching to offline mode? I'm no fan of Steam, but I've never found it so much of a hassle that I looked for alternatives to work around it entirely.

Well these are backups, so I wanted them to be Steam independant.
I will still be using the Steam versions, but if Steam ever goes down I can still play at least SOME of the games I have..

Besides, I am keeping backups made through Steam as well, but these ones I am going to burn to disk and keep them backed up physically.

I was even considering doing up a case and putting the logos on the disc too, so they could sit on my game shelf.... :-)

Lexor: The fault is: you should wait for GOG to have T3 and all your problems will vanish.
avatar
sloganvirst: Yeah, that's true.

But how long will that be? Since it is a fairly newer game it will they may not even be able to get it for another couple of years, no?
T3 is 2004? We have newer games here already.

Yeah, but it still depends when Square Enix decides to let gog have it, no?

Well, yes. But, I think, having T1 and T2 on board increases probability for T3.

Yeah, I guess so.

But I cannot really afford to go buying games twice, much as I would like to buy it (and all Thief games) from GoG.

Na, a moderator on FileForums told me that I wasn't allowed to discuss the circumvention of Steam. Boo!

Oh yeah, I got thief to work simply by including a .reg file in the installation and a reminder at the end of the installation telling me to do it

But I still want to know if I can do anything like this for Section 8: Prejudice?
