こんにちは!

I am new to DRM-Free gaming. Can any of you help me pick out which game to buy first? Thank you very much! I would like to get a cute game this Christmas for my nephew. Sorry for if my English is not so good.

I am looking for games that have support for game pads that can be attached to a laptop or desktop computer. No violent ones, please. Just those with good humor.

Well if you are looking for something relatively straight forward I recommend GOMO, or Triple Town. :) I hope those are of help to you.
Your English is just fine, much better than my Japanese. :)

How old is your nephew? Any type of game that he likes (Platformer, RPG, FPS, Puzzle, etc.)?
Botanicula might be good.

My nephew is about 10 years old.
Perhaps something like or [url=http://www.gog.com/game/race_the_sun]Race the Sun? Machinarium is a point and click game that you play as a robot trying to find his friend/girlfriend. Race the Sun is a very fun racing game where you are simply trying to keep flying for as long as you can.

Thank you for the excellent suggestions. However, I was looking for something that might have a generic game controller support feature.

Costume Quest is pretty easy. Not sure if it has gamepad support.

edit: according to this, you can use a gamepad.

Ah, my apologies. I'm a mouse-user myself, so I forget which are gamepad compatible. Quite a few people on GOG do use them, so I'm sure you'll get some better recommendations. :D

Good luck on your quest!
Gianna Sisters, Pandemonium 1+2 ( bit old, but still good ), Oddworld ( Abe's Oddysee, Abe's Exodus, Stranger's Wrath HD ), Costume Quest, Rayman Origins, Rayman, 2: The Great Escape, Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc, Rayman Forever, Botanicula.

Those should fit the requirements.

Maybe: Strike Suit Zero and the Tomb Raider games.

Those are the ones that an adult should check first, before buying.

As for non-violence, well, i consider Mario and Sonic violent, but when i was a kid cartoon violence was perfectly acceptable, especially if you had an adult to explain the difference between fiction and reality. Anyway, the first batch are games that can be played by a 10 years old.

P.S.: welcome into a great community!

Based on the awesome demo, i would highly recommend rayman origins.

You can try PixelJunk Monsters HD. Right now, it's available for $3.99 here. I think this is the game's official website. It supports mouse and gamepad controls. Also, you can play it in Japanese. This is great for kids because it's got local co-op multiplayer.
I would recommend trine , not only does it have controller support , it has local co-op so you can jump in and help as well, very well made game , if you can grab trine 2 its good as well .
extremely cheap right now
