Lou: He is 19 and never played not to my knowledge. Serious gaming started for him started at 14 when I introduced him to Lineage II - where we have both played off and on for years. He just recently bought himself a PS3 and a WII and has been playing those exclusively.

Ah, I thought he was younger, but sadly I tend not to think in advance to my replies....also, it is like 10:25 here and I have a half-day tomorrow, so school can kiss my ass. I'd keep him from Dead or Alive then.

Well, it depends on which DOA. DOAX, definitely. DOA2 or 3 would be fine, but they aren't on PS3. I tend to think there is a difference between strong sexual imagery and nudity.

They all remind me of the girl in my avatar...Ah, I love her dearly.

Aliasalpha: From what I've read, its justified as part of the story and is actively designed to make you uncomfortable rather than titilate so the traditional issues of nudity aren't really relevant.
Also this might just be my rebellious and selfish nature coming out but I've always been of the belief that choosing to not do something that is harmless and that you normally would want to (and the preorder is evidence that this is the case) for the sake of someone else is letting them have too much control over your life.
Is playing it when she's not around an option?

Lou: I certainly do not want to start a flame war - only sell the game and try and re-coop some of his money, but harmless is subjective. He pre-ordered without checking the rating on the game and would not have ordered it if he had. So he really doesn't want to play it. We all bow to some level of control if you want to call it that. I see it as a choice and he is making the right one.

Oh yeah, not wanting a flame war or anything, just trying to illustrate that the content is apparently (I keep saying that because its not released here until tomorrow, I'm getting impatient) built into the story as an essential and non-gratuitous manner which is a damn sight better than most games and films manage so the actual mature take on it (as opposed to "check out these fucking tits! Our game is so mature!!") might change the playing field a bit.

Wraith: I don't want to start a flame war or seem like I'm judging or anything, but I was just curious what exactly his convictions were regarding it. I respect his decision, but I'm just kinda curious what it is if you don't mind me asking.
I would buy it but sadly I already picked up my preorder 10 minutes ago.

Lou: He knows that his girlfriend would not want him to play the game and he loves and respects her enough to not play it.

*scoffs*
No, really. This is funny.
I believe eBay is a great place to dump unwanted crap.

I agree

Lou: So - if there is any sole out there that would like to help him out and you have not purchased this game he would like to sell it.

Did you ever sort this out? I've been looking around and it's pretty much been confirmed that the Japanese version has had all the nudity removed. It also has full English language support -- so if your son really wants to play the game, has he considered importing the Japanese version? Considering that US versions of the game work on Japanese PS3s, I would also assume that the Japanese version will work on NA versions of the PS3 -- but you might want to confirm that with an importer.
Well I just finished the game and have a more informed opinion of the nudity. My original belief based on the stuff I'd read was indeed correct. The nudity in the game is a massive non-event.
There is absolutely nothing sensational or even significantly unequal about it. In my playthrough I saw a man topless maybe 3 times and a woman topless twice.
The first instance of both involve a shower and are almost shot for shot identical, as if Cage anticipated a scandal and made the scenes the same just to take the piss, you see arse and chest in both and they don't last long enough to have a wank to, trust me I tried!
The second time was simply a guy without a shirt tending his wounds that would cause no raised eyebrows because of the sexism about men without shirts on.
The third was a love scene the same as you'd see in most any movie, the interactive elements (kissing, disrobing with an over the shoulder shot etc) last maybe a minute unless you keep stuffing them up and you see one of the woman's nipples for maybe as long as 2 seconds.
To be blunt, if he can't/won't play the game because of the nudity then he'll have an very limited range of acceptable movies as well. It'd really suck if he ends up seeing footage of it in 5 years and realises he passed on one of the best and most intense games made in this generation over some concerns about irrelevant amounts of minor nudity

Thanks - I will have him read your post and let him decide. He was able to find his reciept from Amazon and they will take it back at full refund. Thanks to all of you who took part in this thread. I am amazed at the mature attitudes here as this could easily have degenerated into an ugly thread.

Actually that would be awkward. He'd tell me to take out the trash in the chat
"Quick son, attack that spellcaster! And stop touching yourself!"
