Looks promising, isn't it? Isn't exactly Mechwarrior but... we'll see if that Piranha Bytes game will live up to MW standard.

It's not trying to be Mechwarrior. Mechwarrior is slow and stompy and about salvaging the mechs you mash up along the way. This is a fast paced MP FPS with awesome architecture.
DAMN YOU INNER SPHERE!

Wait that was MechCommander... nevermind.

I'll say. The level design looks fantastic. The game itself too. I'm definitely keeping an eye out for this.

Me too. I hope they have the good sense to include bots from the outset though. Indie multiplayer games have a history of not to surviving long without them. If nothing else you need something to fill out the matches a bit and maintain interest when there's not a lot of games out there.

Multiplayer-only mods for those sorts of games also usually die very quickly. If nothing else, there are lots of people (like me) who don't actually like multiplayer. That is, I do like it, but only with people I know. Playing against random people over the internet is almost never fun for me. So for me to even consider buying this, it would have to have a singleplayer component.

I'm sure they could make a very good single player experience out of what they've got. But it would most likely still revolve around completing individual arenas as a means of progressing. But if they could make it a bit more MW with the ability to buy and sell in between levels that would certainly be very welcome.

If new MW flops Hawken should have pretty stable player base just because of general lack multiplayer mecha games. I mean, there isn't not much except FME and that Crysis mod, is it?

We'll have to wait and see how "slow and stompy" that new MW will be. No guarantees that Piranha Bytes won't try to "reimagine" the series. Pessimistic, yeah, but we've all seen that happen before, right?

Piranha Games. Piranha Bytes are the Risen people.

Personally I think that a certain amount of reinventing is going to be required anyway. We're looking at vastly different technology and budgets since the last MW game. Not to mention the fact that they need to distance themselves from all the legal issues that plagued the series in the past, and seem to still be today.

So they need to reinvent it because Mechwarrior was always a bit of a rip off IP that was designed around limited budgets and hardware constraints.

Oh crap... my bad, stupid mistake, sorry.

Erm.. so these guys were behind Die Hard:Nakatomi Plaza? Would be awkward if someone frome Piranha Bytes visited this forum,eh?

I don't think they make a regular appearance here, don't worry. :P
Necro'D!

Seeing RPS's latest article and ovoon's thread has reminded me that closed beta is in play soon. Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?

I really hope there's locational damage, even if there doesn't seem to be separation of torso and leg movement.

I'm really loving the aesthetic of this game - it's got the dystopian bleak Anime techno-future thing down really well; the city level commonly featured in the YouTube footage reminds me a lot of the scenes from movies like GITS 2: Innocence, or Appleseed.

On a totally unrelated tangent, I think I'm probably the only one on earth who actually *liked* GITS2 (I actually like it more than the original GITS). :/
Oh boy. And so the spamming of referral links begins.
