Wishbone: Multiplayer-only mods for those sorts of games also usually die very quickly. If nothing else, there are lots of people (like me) who don't actually like multiplayer. That is, I do like it, but only with people I know. Playing against random people over the internet is almost never fun for me. So for me to even consider buying this, it would have to have a singleplayer component.

Navagon: I'm sure they could make a very good single player experience out of what they've got. But it would most likely still revolve around completing individual arenas as a means of progressing. But if they could make it a bit more MW with the ability to buy and sell in between levels that would certainly be very welcome.
Well, it's official. I won't be playing Hawken after all. A pity, but they seem intent to kill the game before it's even launched. Here are a few quotes from their blog:

We are confirming that Hawken will launch as a free-to-play PC game.

Just know that we’ve taken fan suggestions to heart and are working to make Hawken a deeper experience (but still MP only :P ).
So it will be multiplayer only, and likely feature microtransactions for better equipment. "And the rich shall kick ass..."

No thanks.

Foxhack: Oh boy. And so the spamming of referral links begins.
Nah, it's just me.

rampancy: I'm really loving the aesthetic of this game - it's got the dystopian bleak Anime techno-future thing down really well; the city level commonly featured in the YouTube footage reminds me a lot of the scenes from movies like GITS 2: Innocence, or Appleseed.

On a totally unrelated tangent, I think I'm probably the only one on earth who actually *liked* GITS2 (I actually like it more than the original GITS). :/
I'm one of the few who loved GITS 2 and didn't like GITS 1 at all. Honestly, I don't see how GITS 1 is the masterpiece when GITS 2 was so much better.

Personally, I love the SAC and the follow up movie. GITS 1 & 2 I just couldn't get into as much as the SAC. The animation really bugged me.

All that aside, the game does look fantastic. I hope I can run it, or I get a new computational device soon.

I'm taking a wait and see approach with this. Yeah it's really too bad it's MP only, but hopefully they implement some sort of co-op or whatever. It's still too early to tell, but there's still hope for it.

Weren't the SAC movies just rehashed and reedited compliations of story arc episodes like the ones for The Laughing Man? Or maybe I've got them confused with something else...

To echo similar sentiments regarding F2P games, if the developers go the same route as say, successful games like LoL and offer vanity add-ons or conveniences (e.g. something that would make the game less of a grind to earn points for experience or any similar mechanic) through the microtransaction system then that should be alright.

If they decide to go down the route of iOS game developers or the worst of the F2P games out there and just simply decided to let you buy power that's a game you should stay the hell away from, no matter how pretty it is.

They have done that it's true, but it was more to get new fans into the series and wasn't a movie, per say. It was basically all the Laughing Man episodes compiled into one massive arc instead of how they did it in the series with breaks in between, most of which, had nothing to do with the Laughing Man, or Season 2's plot.

Now the official SAC movie was called, "Solid State Society", and took place a few months or years after the 2nd Gig/SAC season. I recommend seeing it, as it settles things fairly nicely in the SAC Universe. The original GITS and the SAC are two different universes I note.

Anyway, the Major is a lot hotter than she was in standard GITS. They did a few fan service shots cleverly put into the series. I will say it gets rather deep plot wise and existentially, I remember my ex had time following the plot and the talks the Section 9 team would have. I digress however. I still think it's an awesome show, and I'd love my own Tachikoma.

I'm so disappointed this game is multiplayer only. Not interested in such kind of games, and this one would be awesome to play as singleplayer.

Yeah, I tried to remain optimistic. But it's an inescapable truth. There will inevitably be premium content and it will give players an advantage. I'd rather just pay up front. Hell, even with a subscription model you do at least know how much you're going to wind up paying - and I wouldn't touch that either.

Alpha 2 just started...

Err...I may or may not be in it. I have to find time to get the 5 GB installer downloaded.
