Ok, I've been shopping over the web for years, and I've never encountered anything like this.

Last night and today, I've tried to make several purchases at several vendors using several payment methods only to get consistently denied. Denied. Denied. and Denied.

Paypal. American Express. Discover. Visa. Doesn't seem to matter the card, or the merchant.

Now here's the thing: (and feel free to not believe me if you like, but you could at least treat the question as a hypothetical if you don't believe me)

I'm not late on ANYTHING.
I honestly can't remember being late on ANYTHING.
I'm certainly not over any limits on ANYTHING.

I have sent emails all over the place, but being a weekend, you know the drill.

I've checked all of my accounts and see no evidence of fraudulent activity on them.

WTF????

Any ideas out there?

I'm not even going to try gog now. Getting denied everywhere pissed me off. If I get denied here it will break my heart.

Sounds like fraud-related activity to me- sometimes your bank will close down your card if it suspects that it was used in a fraudulent manner, you should call the them to make sure that that's not the case; this is something you'll have to talk to someone about, but I know some banks also send you a courtesy call and make a note on your account.

My guess is that you're using the same card for your paypal and amazon accounts, so that's why you see the same notice everywhere; fix the card, you'll fix the problem.

Definitely call your bank.

e: nevermind, I see that you said card or merchant doesn't matter. Hm, that's curious. Definitely start making calls.

Yeah, I've been denied at three or four merchants. I've been denied using PayPal, my American Express (which doesn't even have a limit), a VISA, and a Discover. Denied. Denied. Denied.

I tried switching my PayPal payment link to different cards.... denied denied denied.

I am really, REALLY pissed off. Because I know I've done nothing wrong, am nowhere close to any sort of limits, have not been behind on any payments, and it really is ME trying to make these purchases.

It's infuriating. I'm a lefty politically, it's got me wondering if the NSA has done something nefarious because of all of my online commenting about their fascist asses. LOL

It's the crappy fraud protection built into accounts now a days. It recently reared it's ugly head to me when I was on travel. My CC company actually told me I should send them a message every time I plan to travel and let them know where I am going. Idiotic, as I travel once a week for my job. And I am not going to call or email them once a week (or even once a month) to give them my plans.
So, I am continuing to use the card, but I have another banks card just in case. I've taken to not purchasing from GOG when I am on travel, because I get a double whammy of using it in a weird location and using it overseas...I think that is when I initially received the block.

Whatever happened to the call me when they encounter "fraudulent" expenses. Or letting me decide if I want this hassle all together. I check my expenses regularly...the longest I've ever gone is one week.

Then give me some paperwork to sign my life away. I don't care, but when you are on travel you need plastic and completely blocking someone's account is not the answer.

Mostly domestic. When they initially blocked my account, I was traveling in Florida between Miami and Key West and I made a purchase at GOG...which was the double whammy. I really noticed because my card got blocked at two different gas stations...which is not the ideal time for your card to get blocked, luckily I still had my corporate card.

If that's what this is, then at least I know an easy way to deal with that bullshit.

Sounds just like DRM. The thieves will still steal, but the honest customer is the one inconvenienced and put out.

Oh well, guess maybe OFG's days of online shopping are over because I ain't puttin' up with it. Once again I imagine all my consumer "friends" just go along with whatever any company, anywhere, does. Not me. I've got email with every card I tried. If it doesn't get fixed and happens again, they can have their piece of plastic back. Mankind lived thousands of years without PayPal and credit cards, and I lived quite a few of them myself. I got no qualm going back to not using them if they're going to treat the honest customer like thieves just like DRM in copyright material does.

Oh, and when they blocked my card, all my bills got blocked...My Cell phone bill, my Internet Bill, my Satellite Bill. Luckily I was on top of it and charged all three of those to another credit card temporarily. But it was the wrong time of the month to be blocking my account, especially without a call to confirm these charges.
I should have been more irate with customer service, but I never like yelling at Customer Service personnel. There's nothing these low level people can do about stupid policies.

HAH ! ! ! !

On a Saturday no less.

I didn't expect this.

I said above I sent emails informing everyone I was fine with cancelling whatever accounts I had (PayPal, BML, American Express) etc. AND the same emails to every merchant that I got denied at (because you know, merchants do want their money).

AND GET THIS.

I just got TWO EMAILS announcing "YOUR ORDER IS APPROVED" I really expected nothing until Monday (at the earliest) and even then only expected some patronizing bullshit to which I would've responded by cancelling said accounts.

THIS IS HOW CONSUMERS ARE SUPPOSED TO USE THEIR POWER.

If all of my fellow consumers and workers out there would wake up and start taking advantage of the power we have, this whole world would change. You wouldn't even recognize the place it would be so different where consumers really do have all the power (in this world we're just told we do to try and appease us, we don't ever actually have power until we CHOOSE to use it).

Anyway, this actually shocked me, and in a very pleasant way.

Oh, and if all of this really was you guys at the NSA and you just read this thread and felt badly about things and fixed them, then thanks. :P LOL

Banks want their money too... no, wait, banks want your money, so when you threaten to cancel your accounts at them, they do whatever they can to appease you.
