N0x0ss: I might be Naive... but I think that GOG is as good as it gets...
Not naieve, just top of your list ^^

GOG isn't at the top of my list, and I'm certainly not going to count out future innovations for gaming platforms, not to mention the simple fact that a Windows upgrade with severe architecture changes or perhaps even an entire OS switch at some point could render most of GOG inert without a good way to adjust to it. Currently they're basically thriving on the existence of Dosbox, if that goes out the door they'd be stuck waiting/hoping for alternatives like the rest of us.

Anyway, that's all just speculation. My point is, I'm not counting anything out ^^

migizi: Duplicates of games you already own? What I mean by this is do you own a physical copy of the game but opt to buy a digital copy when GOG releases it? If you do, for what reason?

I've done this for a few of the games I have. The main reason is I like the digital aspect. I can put it on my NAS and install it whenever I want. I also don't have to worry about losing it or needing a disk to play. I'm also very happy with GOG so I like to support them when I can.
Yeah, mostly for compatibility reason with modern OSes.

I'm ashamed to say that there are a handful of games I already owned prior to buying them from GOG which I hadn't played because when I bought them, they were already for a dated OS and I never managed to make them work.

First example that comes to mind is the Commandos series (they were DOS compatible... I had Windows 98 when I got them and I never managed to make it work with Windows 98).

Another is Soul Reaver (Windows 95-98 Compatible, I had Windows 2000 when I got it... story of my life...)... not yet released on GOG, but I'm eagerly waiting for it so that I can finally play it.

Microsoft sucks balls at backward compatibility.

They were one of the first to abandon backward compatibility for Windows XP with some of their product (Internet Explorer 9 only runs on Vista or above).

Another example: I got a Microsoft joystick for Windows 98 and it stopped working on Windows XP (and there were no drivers, I looked).

Heck, they can't be even bothered to support their hardware... apparently, they expect you to get a new joystick every 5 years, because...!

You can be sure that my next joystick wasn't a Microsoft one and sure enough, it's still work 2 versions of Windows later.

Anyways, I'll stop. I'm getting angry.

Yes, I have. It's easier (for me) to buy a digital copy of a game that is already set up to play with the newer PC's than it is to set up my discs to play. Plus, if anything bad happens, I have a spare so no worries! I usually don't buy them unless there is no other game that is out that I want or unless I win it via community or elsewhere.

I also think it is a good support to show companies how much we miss their games on newer OS's that we are going to buy additional copies of their games.
I had to make a list of all my games to prevent me from buying more than one copy of each. Has not worked that well, though...
Not really. The only time I've done it is out of need, not to have spares or help GOG or any other digital vendor. I got UT2k4 off GOG when i already owned it because i had lost my CDs and the game did come in 5 of them, so it was a hassle to install. I found the box eventually, but don't regret getting my GOG copy one bit since I gave the boxed version to my brother.

Then again, I don't really own that many old games, so I don't bump into issues regarding installation from old games and such. I'm technically incompetent enough to fork over GOG's asking price to replay old games I enjoyed and can't play from the CDs, but I wouldn't do it if the CD copy runs fine.
Thus far the only (non free) duplicate that I have on GOG is Betrayal in Antara, and I bought that pack for Betrayal at Krondor. I'm generally able to make older games playable on my current system, as long as it is realistically possible, and re-buying games is an expense that I just can't justify.
I have never actually owned any of the games I have bought on GOG, but I have a few games I love that are incompatible with Win7. If they were released here, I would buy them.

Other than that I'd probably re-buy games that I play on a regular basis, because I travel a lot between the States and Europe and there's a million things competing for the limited space in my suitcase.
I have 7 or 8. I bought 3 because I got them at a great price and they're good backup options. As well, I don't have to futz around trying to install them. The others I got either as gifts or as a choice in a game swap.

Wishbone: I've done this with quite a few games, for various reasons. For instance, UT2004 and Painkiller. It's just so much easier to install the GOG versions, than to sit there swapping tons of CDs during installation.
This. Plus I absolutely hate screwing around swapping discs to play PC games. I'm not sure why this bugs me so much really since I accept it as par for the course with console gaming but with PC gaming it irks me. I love to download, install and play without ever fooling with discs at all. I have very few retail copies of games left now because of this. It's just as well. I need the space for console discs! lol

Several times: Easier access, durability of the medium, and in the case of Fallout it is bullshit to play Fallout 2 in German since it is slaughtered horribly down to the point where the translation reads like Ubisoft (or as it later was called, Babelfish, or these days Google Translator, or as TVTropes says: BlindIdiotTranslation)
I've owned a bunch of the games I've bought here like MoO 1&2, Descent 1&2, HoMM 1&2, Settlers 2, Dungeon Keeper 1&2, Populous 1&2, Crusader: No Remorse, Little Big Adventure, Longest Journey, Magic Carpet, Rollercoaster Tycoon 1&2, Alpha Centauri, Sim City 2000, Stronghold, Worms... but I hadn't kept most of these games' discs as they were left behind during moves given to relatives and friends. Some may call me crazy because of that, but I didn't mind so much, especially since I was distancing myself from gaming for a while (twice).

Obviously it didn't work out too well since I'm playing lots and lots of games again these days, and I've pretty much given up on trying to avoid gaming as I just like it too much. Anyway, rediscovering these great gaming classics through the means of GOG has been a great joy to me. It was totally worth re-buying these games (along with plenty of to me new ones).

Same here. "Oh... I need to put in a different disc to play Xbox 360 game so and so? Alright." - "I can't be arsed to look for this damn PC CD. (even if a stack of them may sit right next to my desk)" It's a bit strange alright. Then again, since my gaming PC is a laptop I can take all my games with me wherever I go. In that case it makes more sense, especially since GOG makes mostly everything a worry-free experience.
I'm tempted, but I resist the temptation, mainly because I know I won't play these games anyway.
I got BG2 for cheap during the Christmas sale as a backup for my physical copy, but I haven't actually installed it yet. Someday when I get tired of sticking the disk in the drive, I will. And I picked up Fallout during the free promo, but unfortunately the GOG version is the heavily censored version, so my retail version (no disk check or anything) is still better. But those are my only duplicates so far.
i have bought "duplicates", mostly for 2 different reasons;

1) to replace localized or censored physical editions (ex.: Baldur's Gate series).
2) for convenience, so i can do without the disc (which i'm still keeping, of course)

there would be a third reason, which has, however, not yet been the case for me personally:

3) to replace a protected physical edition with a DRM-free digital copy (ex.: Race Driver 3)
Yes, when I see a good deal. But not for all.
