At the very least, the thread could start over fresh without the 3500+ pages of drama. At worst, it falls into oblivion. It should be noted a few threads started as an offshoot of the ninja thread in order to throw the trolls off-track a bit.

In my opinion, that thread should probably stay closed. I am neutral as to whether a fresh new thread should grow to take its place. Maybe if such a new thread started with an OP concerning proper etiquette such as mentioning how limiting oneself to maybe one code a day makes it more fair for everyone and advising people to thank the gifters. The new thread might get off to a better start.

I actually had some nice times in there, I remember joking with Sachys and I think we started with the monsanto man over there. That said, I was never very interested and I haven't been visiting in quite a while. Then some stench started coming from there, tons of people complaining, yada yada yada. Yeah, if you ask me, it's better off closed.

The fact of the matter is that if you leave honey lying around, you'll attract flies, and a thread with random free game codes dropping regularly is apparently a magnet for douchebags from around the world. That's definitely something this community can do without.
But wouldn't it be better to have the flies in one place and not let them buzz around, breed in other threads and spread over the whole forum?

there is still the open this thread one.

anyway its closed (for now) we can keep talking about it but doesnt bring it back and i think many can agree it shouldn't be.
let focus on other things.

Given that the disease they brought did seem to spread to the whole forum (or at least parts of it outside the ninja thread), and that the flies only came for the ninja thread in the first place, no I don't think so.

It would be an interesting experiment to say the least, the worst that can happen is another person opening another ninja thread. On the other hand this could be a chance for the forum to change and grow. The ninja thread started out very idealistically but now it represents both the best and the worst of the community page and it could finally be played out. I PMed wpegg and they said that they would leave the decision up to the people posting in the ninja thread. So do you think the ninja thread should be abandoned to try and make something better or reopened for business?
I think a lot of people there have good intentions and tried to hold a good spirit for it and suspect that it may be part of the cause why some people got disappointed, but, for the sake of the greater good THIS.

To my knowledge they are not passing judgement on the thread at the present time, nor suggesting it has been permanently locked (obviously I cannot speak for the GOG staff, this is just my understanding of the situation). It may be unlocked in the future, I believe that this thread was started to gauge opinion on that matter.

And also, I suggest to anyone reading this thread, they post in http://www.gog.com/forum/general/lets_discuss_your_experiences_with_the_forum and support the idea of a "Giveaway" topic (such as we have for news and questions) that is SPECIFICALLY NOT viewable by the public. With better filtering options as well, this will clear up many issues that have been on the go around here for some time: from "giveaway spam" and the counter argument that segregating giveaways will only attract more "flies", to lurkers and other things.
