Last time I suggested 'Pay what you want' the hooker beat the shit out of me.
GOG was around before all this Indie Bundle shenanigans started, so continuing their business model is 'selling out'... how, exactly?

I guess GOG was right when they said they feel that deep discounts just devalues games. Prime example right here, where the OP doesn't think games are worth more than a buck. Anyway, feel free to keep shopping those PWYW (aka -"these games are only worth a buck") bundles. But good luck finding the majority of GOG's great game catalog in bundles.
OP: You're just being incredibly spoiled by pay-what-you-want bundles, and because of this you're mistaking their main purpose from actual stores' purposes.

They're cool I know, you get to help people all around the world starting from a small fee to whatever your heart dictates and as gift for your help you get DRM-free and cross-platform games, some of them ok ones and some others incredible titles for dirt cheap prices.

But that's the main purpose, charity, not you getting games, it's not a "store" as Steam or GOG are.

Developers and publisher (even EA) need to eat and pay bills like everyone else, if they can't earn their money developing and publishing games then how the hell will they survive?

Everybody needs to eat, they invest time and money in this entertaining softwares we like to use.

Do not mistake PWYW Charity websites with Stores like Steam or GOG please, ever again.

Cheers to TinyE and his jokes!
Completely confused - can someone explain to me what the content of the OP has to do with the thread title?

I assume he is referring to GOG selling expensive games, as opposed to the $5.99 and $9.99 games it used to.

Even so, I still don't follow - how is that "selling out" and to whom in relation to time-limited indie bundles?
the fact you paid very little for lots of indie shovelware is irrelevant.

i think you might not be comparing like with like , apples against apples etc.

I might have reservations about some of the games on gog , however, i do know they arent ramming tons of crap at me for peanuts.

this whole indie game thing is really sad , and people who continue buying this dross is contributing to the lack of really good games being released.

take banished for example (nice graphics etc for a 90mb file) but - its utter crap , and it sells for $15.

Well, I suppose it's "selling out" because GOG is no longer selling exclusively cheap games and not embracing the PWYW model, but instead adopts wider price ranges.

Yeah, it's like the whole mess with all these crappy old games that keep popping up all around the place. I mean, have you seen that Duke Nukem 3D shit? It's like 30 MB and they have the audacity to sell it for 6 bucks - and the game doesn't even look good, I mean all the enemies have like 4 sides or whatever and constantly turn those towards you! Fucking indie and old games.

back it its day (18 years ago) duke 3d was good, I mean for $6 is a nostalgia trip for us old timers.

banished on the otherhand.... well its popular with people who buy indie games but will not be remembered like duke nukem and I highly doubt it will ever be considered a classic.

re indie games - fact - a very high percentage of these are shovelware / dross .

You mean as opposed to all the games released at 1996 which are uniformely remembered to this day. This includes classics such as Bang Bang Ball, Cool Boarders or Chess Mates. Oh, right...

Spoilers: Banished is widely considered to be a good game.

Oh well, at least you enjoy your trolling :-P

i really didn't mean to hurt your feelings regarding banished , but for me its everything but a good game , its pretty , but its not my brand of vodka

maybe i should have been more general and just said <insert random indie game title>

and coolboarders on the psx was actually pretty ok , much like tony hawks except with snowboards

I don't really give a toss about Banished, not my thing either. What I oppose to are generalization, such as that most indie games are either shovelware or crap. You know what vast majority of non-indie games are? Hidden object games, farmville clones, bejewelled clones, that kind of stuff, now that's shovelware. I'm not disputing that most indie games indeed are crap, they are - but that doesn't only apply to indie games, that quite simply applies to most games ever released. Only in case you want to apply your filter to high-budget AAA titles, you get into territory where most games are at least passable as they get a solid share of QA - but by doing so, you'd be selectively looking at such a small percentage of the market that such a statement becomes completely negligible.
Is this a troll topic? Or is this just an example of a sad individual?
