CaptainGyro: The way I look at it though is it's hard to be mad at gog for not offering a sale where their whole library ranges from $3- $7.50 per game, and have that sale last just about a whole month.
avatar
Fred_DM: it's 5.99 to 9.99, actually. GoG has only two different price points.
I believe that the good captain is referring to the anticipated Christmas sale, wherein he expects prices to be in the range of (50% off $5.99) to (25% off $9.99) for most of the month.
I am only glad someone has enough of judgement and don't start christmas sales as soon as possible.

grape1829: I don't know why so many people had to bash on OP... He WANTS to buy from GOG. He's just probably limited to a budget like most people are, and with awesome deals appearing left and right from all the other DD sites with no guarantee of what GOG's going to offer, it's pretty easy to spend everything you've budgeted before GOG announces a deal for anything you want. I haven't been around here long but I remember how GOG's summer sales really knocked every penny out of my wallet, but had I been looking into Steam sales as well during that period, GOG would have earned maybe half of what they did from me. Speaking of this season alone (from Thanksgiving), I've already spent more than half of my winter gaming budget at this point, and pretty much most of my impulsive-buying budget. Like the $2.50 Terraria daily deal on Steam? I would've bought that without a second thought if I had a little more leftover cash, but I'm not able to touch it right now. It's just different logic coming from different people with different situations.
Thanks for catching entire point of my post.

Id love to buy more games from gog! But lately, gog is always LATE with sales. When gog starts to making sales my budget is always empty or near to being empty.

As you said, I couldn't resist 2,50$ on terraria and now im little poorer for christmas.

and for other guys - US is not the only countr in the world. There are some places where 6 bucks is big amount of money. In fact it's around 20 PLN now. and you can survive entire day with 3 wholesome meals.

So yes, guys like me NEED sales.

And im not raging, demanding and anything. Im just simple customer who goes where games are cheaper. And lately it's ALWAYS steam, even though it wasn't always like this.

But i will try to save something for gog christmas sale next week. My wishlist is still far from being cleaned ;)

DubConqueror: It's a European site (Polish in fact) and there's already too much americanization going on this side of the Atlantic ocean.

Barefoot_Monkey: ;-)

I had no idea. That's interesting.

i see. i missed last year's GoG Holiday promo so i didn't know what discounts are to be expected.

Late? Game is not a necessity. You can survive a lot without gaming (not like without water nor food). I would talk about "late" if GOG will be "late in time" like "a few months back". A few weeks of difference is NOTHING.

keeveek: As you said, I couldn't resist 2,50$ on terraria and now im little poorer for christmas.
Dont blame GOG. Rather learn to blame yourself for such steps.

Well, this was also for me? I'm from Poland also, and I know what you are talking about. So, yes, I didnt say I dont need sales myself at all. But saying "GOG is LATE!" is ridiculous.

keeveek: So yes, guys like me NEED sales.
Maybe, but first you need PATIENCE. There is no end of the world tomorrow, GOG is not going down. We had a few topic on that and it was clear since some time that there will be some sale soon. So... why so in hurry..
GoG cannot yet compete with the frequency of sales on other DD sites because it has a substantially smaller catalogue. Maybe in a few years time. Right now, I am happy with the occasional sale though, I think that they're reasonable.
Nah , I'm happy with the frequency of GOG sales , and besides the games are so cheap here on GOG , its like having one long permanent sale , I mean just look at Ultima 7 for instance what an amazing price ! .. I'd of happily paid twice that amount for such an amazing package :-)

And if it aint broke no need to fix it ! ;)

And I forgot mention the great Weekend Promo's !
I imagine its difficult on morale to be in business serving the ENTITLEMENT generation :(

Besides.... I don't want a sale for xmas... I want to know what newerish games we can expect and when! :p

Sorry, no place for patience in consumptionism. All I know is i managed to save some money and I look what I can buy for it And if you track recent dollar - zloty exchange ratio i wouldn't be patient at all :D It's freaking 3.32 and several months ago it was 2.72 :P

btw. even Dotemu has advent callendar right now. So argument "gog is too small for making this" is also invalid.

And yes, in business like this in most cases when you start a sale a week after competition you are LATE. people's wallets are not bottomless, so they are going to choose. Gog is excluding itself from choice. It's simple as that.

No heart feelings, im just saying.

PPS. The topic is kind of outdated now, cause GOG.com big christmas sale is already annouced. The date is scheduled so as a "patient" customer I may save some dollars for 8th Dec ;)

So your saying that GOG should just have a Knee Jerk reaction and copy everyone else out there ?.
GOG is a very unique site and does things very well as it is .. and have you forgotten the great price we already have here anyway ?

Dotemu and other sites pale in comparison to GOG ... I mean just take a look at Dotemu forums if want proof , its like a ghost town in there !

Anyways just my 2cents ;-)

And just to add , I'd rather wait for the GOG sale anyway :-)

Dunno what you're talking about. Poland is free from communism for just 20 years now, so our "generation" is not soaked with "entitlement".

I just know and understand how business work. It's not a coincidence that all distrib. launched christmas events the same time. (except gog of course :P)

It's a wise thing to do to copy the best. (Valve i mean)

And sincerely, I don't understand all that hostility. I don't want anything for free. I want gog to give more oportunities to give them money. What's wrong with that altitude?
