Using this offer: http://www.windowsupgradeoffer.com/ ?

"While the offer will be limited to eligible customers who purchase a qualified PC, the upgrade may be installed on any compatible Windows-based PC with a qualifying operating system ."

Does that mean that it is possible to use the upgrade code on systems bought a long time ago?

From the FAQ:

"If you buy a qualified Windows 7 PC between June 2, 2012 and January 31, 2013, you can purchase a download of Windows 8 Pro at a special promotional price that varies by region. "

I think this was meant for people who needed to buy a new computer and couldn't wait for Win 8, but wanted to upgrade to Win 8 anyway.

They mean that you can only get the upgrade if you bought an eligible Windows PC during the summer. However, since you get a license for Win 8, you could use that license on a different PC instead of the newly bought one.

They're not saying that if you bought a PC 5 years ago you can get Win 8 for free, however.
