Back in May I stumbled across Harvester in a YouTube video. Thinking it looked totally ridiculous, I threw it in an Amazon wishlist and didn't really think about it till I saw it again a few weeks ago. Totally compelled by it, I bought it and I played it for the first time last night. As freaking strange as it is, I love it. I absolutely lost it laughing at the quip in the beginning about flannel shirts in the main characters closet, one of my close friends was over playing it with me and he lost it too, cause really the only shirts I wear are flannel shirts. xD

We skipped around the game and played some of the end, (The Lodge), and while it's the most bizarre game I've ever played, it's easily one of my favorites. It wants to weird you out, and it does a great job doing it. I especially loved the CGI intro and other graphics in parts, the technology of the time, which almost seems primitive now, adds to the bizarre feeling of the game. By looking badly rendered and cheesy, it just adds that much more to the game. And from a technical standpoint, the game isn't a very good game at all, but it's seriously a lot of fun to play.

I really hope GOG can release this game. It's one of those games that needs to be experienced by every classic PC game player. The game really isn't for everyone though, especially if you hate the bizarre, graphic violence, and getting a bit mind-f***ed. If you're interested in this game, I really suggest buying a copy off of eBay or Amazon. From what I've heard some European copies are censored, so try going for an American copy if you can. Like my friend said, "This game is more weird and twisted than all of the Silent Hill games combined. How much is a copy on Amazon?"
Did a quick look to see who owns this game, looks like it's Eutechnyx Limited. So it seems pretty possible.

That'd be awesome. It runs pretty well in DOSBOX too. They just don't make games like it anymore. It dared to be totally different and succeeded.

Ah, I should of searched first, sorry man. :/

Glad to know there's a lot of other fans it seems though :D
Ten years, ago, when I was just a dumb little kid, I probably would have been in favor of it. But now, I don't think that a game, that runs purely on shock value (and seems to have a ludicrously hypocritical message) is a really necessary here. At least Postal 2 is fun to play. This one just seems to be a bad FMV game.

Of course, GOG is sometimes rather lax on the first word of it's (former) title, so I wouldn't rule anything out.

I really, really hate it when people make such claims. There is no such a thing as a "must-have".

Especially not THIS game. It's substantially more entertaining to watch a Let's Play (or even a review) of this game than it is to actually play it yourself, especially in the later "action" sections. Technically speaking it's actually pretty terrible.

Also Jack Thompson, lol.

I'm in favor of it, but I'm not a little kid. I'm 17, and I've played games a lot more shocking than Harvester. I know it's a technically terrible game, I said that in my original post. Maybe it's just I was playing it with a friend, but we had a blast. After I bought it I was a bit worried that it would be waste of money from seeing other such comments as it's a bad game and such, but we had a lot of fun, so I wouldn't knock it until you physically play it. But that's just me.

I don't blame you and who can

Some people on these forums are so mental and insane that if you dare to post in a thread that's as little as 3 weeks old you will be accused of "Necro'ing" and branded a "Troll"
This seems fantastic!

The wishlist entry needs more votes. They just don't make over the top like they used to.

I'm 24, and I have to admit I think Harvester is one darn shocking game (from what I saw in a LP YouTube video); it goes for "whitewashed" 1950s suburban life contrasted by utter brutality, torture/gore, and creepy-as-fsck-ness in various ways. (Frankly I'm tired of everyone poking a stick at that decade, but whatever...)

It's hard to think of a lot more games (there are plenty of movies) that are "shocking" like it, or at least are done in the same realistic style. Would you mind naming some?

345 is a decent amount, but for those who really want to see it here (I'd only be in favor of it for historical purposes, but GOG is ultimately a business that needs games to sell well): http://www.gog.com/en/wishlist/games/harvester

Harvester is no more gory than Phantasmagoria. As a matter a fact, Harvester is a lot more funny with its gore. The whole game is a dark comedy poking fun at the fact that "video games make you serial killers".

I've beat it. It's clunky and has some bugs but I'd buy it again if it showed up here for $6 or less. Just because some people find it "all shock value" doesn't mean it shouldn't come here. People said the same thing when Postal and Carmageddon came here.
The game is hilarious. The shock isn't the same kind of "shock" you'd see in something legitimately disturbing, it's just quirky humor.

Plenty of games back in the day were fairly clunky, but still beloved. As long as a games clunkiness doesn't make it unplayable, it shouldn't be that large of an issue.
I've seen cutscenes from this thing that put it firmly on my "to play" list.

"Can't live without your spine, son. Nothing unnatural about that. Think I will have some more pie."

I don't quite get the hate Harvester gets. Maybe it is not a real gem, but IIRC it was kinda nice adventure game, at least for its twisted world. GOG has worse adventure games here, e.g. 7th Guest.

It has some gore, but IIRC it was more comedic than anything else. Or maybe the right term is "campy". Maybe I'l check a longplay from Youtube, just to refresh my memory.
