Wikipedia turns 10 today.

I know that admitting to using Wikipedia as a source for anything is a good way to be told not to on a forum, but, hey, admit it - you use it several times a day anyhow.
Wikipedia is a great resource for initial research and usually bloody reliable for technical information, I suspect because there are more anal retentive nerds with a correction fetish than there are arseholes who think its funny to screw up webpages
Happy Birthday, Wikipedia! :D

Wikipedia has proven to be more accurate than an encyclopaedia. Which isn't bad going for a site anyone can edit. However, I'd always recommend consulting at least two sources.
Thats wise for anything

I hear you. You should always consult some other source, for example this site.
or maybe conservapedia, it only contains info on the RIGHT reality, not the crappy one that most people live in...

You mean?
Too bad it's been taken over by a bunch of trolls these days. Just see the deletion of the Press Play on Tape-page on Wikipedia as an example.

Wankers/exclusionists like Ben Schumin and Andy J. Smith seem to have a life mission to destroy wikipedia for the rest of us.

I agree, there's a lot of stupidity on the part of old contributors, and the fact that articles get deleted or edited even when there are enough sources to prove the information is without bias made me stop contributing.

I really can't believe this BS.

Why indeed. You'd have to ask Ben, Andy & co, who fought for this deletion as if their lives depended on it. Or read that discussion I linked to... a word of warning, though, it's a very frustrating and sad read :-(

I know, I already read it. Man, what a couple of douchebags. There ought to be some sort of higher authority one could appeal to.
I admit to loving wikipedia. During boring stretches as work, I'll take what I refer to as a 'wikipedia walk'. I look at a topic that initially interests me and just keep follwing the 'see also' links. Before I know it, I've read about lost cosmonauts, Oliver Wendell Holmes, the Eiffel Tower, Motherwell football club, and Saint Jude, among others, all in one sitting.
