It's time for another Hidden Gem from the PC gaming history. This week we're getting a closer look at a RPG Septerra Core: Legacy of the Creator.
We know there are a lot of RPG fans here at GOG.com and this week we decided to put a spotlight on a role-playing title, but different than others, unique. [url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/septerra_core_legacy_of_the_creator]Septerra Core is a console-style RPG made by a USA developer Valkyrie Studio in a spirit of Japanese RPGs. Pete Davison took the fun ride into the world of manga-styled characters, intricate storyline and he wrote down his impressions here. With the article comes the $1.00 discount, so you can grab the game for only $4.99 until Sunday, October 25 at 11:59 p.m. EDT.
Hamachi is an excellent tool, but for some of the older games here, it might be difficult to find support. However, there is a good list of supported games for Hamachi here.

Very useful... I might add that if you've got a supported game, you can also use Garena.

That sounds like a possible opportunity for a GOG specific LAN emulator so people who buy gog games with multiplayer can play themwith fellow goggers
GOG don't need emulator, they need just to tell buyer - get hamachi, get online, get killed by l33t.
Hamachi is one of stable programs on my PC, its easy and reliable.
I've used hamachi a bit and I like it alot, it's very simple to setup. Very reliable and generally easy to use.
Another option is GameRanger.
Unlike Hamachi, GameRanger is actually designed for gaming and doesn't expose your whole computer to other people over the net. You also don't have to worry about juggling networks that become full when they hit the 16 user limit.
Supports over 500 games, including most of the GoG ones.

Now that's a terrific idea! :) You should mention it on the features list.

I adore GameRanger... but it's blocked at my university, so I can't use it. :\.

I think I might
The term is "VPN", not "LAN emulator". Anyway, there are a couple open source programs for the task. Seeing how GOG already uses DOSbox, I'd expect them to go with a similar pre-existing solution to the problem.

IMHO, it's a bad idea. The communities for these older classics are small enough as it is without shutting out the non-GoG owners. You need all the potential players you can get.

Ouch! Can you just not play games? (And if so, does GameRanger report a router warning?)
Or can you not log into GameRanger at all?

I can't log in, I have to run it through an HTTP tunneler/SOCKS client to log in. Even then, I can't join/host games. The error that shows when I try to join/host a game is "You cannot host games through a SOCKS firewall". I can fool the program by running it directly through the SOCKS client, instead of putting in the settings in the program itself, but when I do that, the "Firewall problem" error appears. So I basically can't use it. :\
