Nice promo, surprisingly I only had Sanitarium so far (on GOG), so once again my wallet had to suffer massively. I'm wondering, however, why BloodRayne isn't part of the promo.

JudasIscariot: Too bad this promo didn't come out earlier when the dollar wasn't worth over 3 PLN. [...]
Heh, tell me about it. While I'm not interested in this promo, I'm worrying about the USD/HUF conversion rates; normally, it's around 1$=200 HUF, but right now it's 214, yesterday (or was it Friday?) it was around 218, and there was a time a few days ago when 1$ was worth more than 220 HUF! Yep, that's a 10+% increase.

It's weird how the dollar has gotten stronger all of a sudden despite the crisis. I remember where it was about $1 = 2.75 PLN, now it's about 3.07 PLN. Damn US gov't printing them dollars as they see fit :D.
And the backloggery continues to grow...
Bought the GKs and already got stuck in the first one... At 21 scores no more as well. -.-' And I am no stranger to adventure games, but right now I cannot even fathom what to do... Is it possible in these games to get permanently stuck? Like you don't get an item when you had the opportunity or such? Sierra does love that kind of stuff...

Not in this one, no. You can die at a few points, but you'll know when you're headed into dangerous territory, and you can never screw up other than that.

If you're stuck where I think you are (as there is one puzzle very early in this game that doesn't make much sense until you've solved it), remember to check out the clickable books in St George's and search your grandma's attic.

MaridAudran: So is Scratches any good? Is there an analogous game to compare it to, gameplay and/or character-wise? Is it a souped-up Dark Fall or what?

VtM: Bloodlines is one of my all-favorite games, however I wonder if it has spoiled me; spoiled me from enjoying Redemption, that is. Is the VtM predecessor very inferior or enjoyable in its own right? Some of the screenshots to me look like it suffered from the boxy, ugly polygon look so common to late 90s -- early 00s 3D games.
Can't really judge Scratches yet, but the comparison to Dark Fall is very fitting; it's definitely in the same category and quite similar. Except that it also has the 360 degree angle you might know from games like "Dracula: The Resurrection" etc., meaning you jump from one point in the room/area to another like in Dark Fall, but you can freely look around, the view isn't static.

I'm not very familiar with VtM:Bloodlines but I take it the gameplay is quite different from VtM:Redemption. The latter is basically a linear isometric dungeon crawler / hack and slash RPG with extremely limited roleplay occasions and the story being told mostly through cutscenes in between. It has a recurring pattern of dungeons that are usually three levels deep, each featuring one of the Vampire clans as enemies who all require different tactics to fight, and apart from that it's just looting containers and inventory management. Except for 3-4 hard boss battles most fights are quite easy, especially if you make good use of the disciplines and the PAUSE key that was introduced with the patch. It should take about 30 hours or less to complete the game, and it can get somewhat repetitive. The story, while not spectacular, is quite nice though, and atmosphere, voiceovers and soundtrack are great. (Watch a gameplay video on youtube to get an idea, like this one.)

Wow, thanks, got it now.... That was waaay too random for me. I even had both "parts of the puzzle" I just failed at connecting them to each other.
Anyway, thank you very much again, I was just about to tear out my last bit of hair. xD

Leroux: *snip*
Thank you Leroux, this feedback was informative and exactly what I was fishing for.

lexantis: FAIL!!! Scratches is even cheaper than here on Steam now ! xD
If one of the reasons you like GOG is because the games here are DRM-free, it's worth the extra $1.59 to get it here rather than on Steam. If given the choice, I'll support DRM-free games any day. Plus the extras and personal touch from the staff here at GOG are just added bonuses most faceless companies don't have. I've bought a lot of games from Steam, but if they were available on GOG, I would have bought them here instead without a second thought.

Good summary. The gameplay was heavily influenced by Diablo rather than traditional RPGs. Ok for the most part, but swapping between characters to control their specials doesn't work as smoothly as it should. When it came out it got lots of heat for not letting you save outside your lair, which meant huge amounts of backtracking if you didn't have a teleport scroll. They corrected that.
I bought Scratches, better here than steam because no DRM and easy backup. My God the scrolling is so smooth. Gonna try finish it in Halloween.

Initially I decided to only get Gabriel Knight 1, but now that I've completed the first day I'm liking it so very much I had to get the sequel as well. The mime in the park was hilarious ... and Tim Curry and Mark Hamill talking with southern accents, lol ... and the music, the graphics, the writing, it's all great. Can't believe I overlooked this classic for so long, but I'm just glad to be playing it now :)
I bought Gabriel Knight 1.

Is the rest of the GK series worth buying as well?
