24,000+ people in the
group,
for the sake of comparison one of the oldest HL sites out there has a group (
http://steamcommunity.com/groups/halflife2) of 6,600 members now, and they're up for years; that's to show how much people want communication about HL2EP3 before it turns out being HLF (Half-Life Forever). ;)
The guy from the Minerva mod could be working on HL right now, probably is. And it seems the Dear Esther guy is doing wonders with the engine, didn't know he would make such large environments like that in source... I'd like those open environments/better exploration in a Half-Life title, a single-player title not with any online interference like PS3's Dark Souls or like The Crossing had promised. Just a plain EP3 SP game, I'd be happy with that.
Black Mesa mod is silent, nobody knows why.
I don't care about ARGs, although hints like the Borealis in Portal 2 are nice and welcome. I guess now they have no idea of which ways to connect Portal to the main HL storyline. :p
kodeen: There won't be a PS4 announcement at E3, not sure about Xbox 720, but if Sony is holding their cards to their chest for a while more, I expect Valve will as well.
Well, both might just announce, they might not even show a playable prototype, just announce like Nintendo did with Wii U.
If both announce consoles then a flood of game announcements would come after then, and the launch of the consoles could be in holiday 2013 or 2014. I'd just be happy if Valve then jumped and said: "next HL title releasing in holiday 2013". That's it.
rampancy: Did anyone forget what happened the last time with the HL2 source code leak? From what I hear Gabe Newell and some of the people at Valve are still bitter over that. I don't blame them one bit for being secretive and uncommunicative.
I remember sure, and I've read about it recently:
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-02-21-the-boy-who-stole-half-life-2-article Valve must be much more secure nowadays, as they had to study and improve much more their security because of steam already. Still it would be sad if yet another asshole tries to do that to Valve again. Well, there may be assholes trying to do that as Dota2 nears its launch to be honest.
godspeeed: follow your dreams. forget about the haters.
Thanks. At least there are a few positive people around. :)
Not a dream of my own though, it's just a product I (and other 24,000 people) would like to have information/communication going on, since the company owns me nothing, I don't own any of their properties.
Cadaver747: ...
On the other hand if the game is really developing (considering that after Portal 2 they may concentrate on it), it would be only logical to announce it on E3 2012 and sell it during Christmas holidays.
My point is: Valve would not tell us anything before the right moment. For some companies it takes 15 years :)
My best expectations are:
There are two teams working on Half-Life: Episode 3 (Source engine) and Half-Life 3 (new engine) at the same time. Valve is to announce both projects at once; sells the last Episode in trilogy this Christmas and creates enough hype for Half-Life 3 for another 3 years.
Just in case, I don't meant to offend anyone.
I don't see why anyone would be offended.
Well, IMHO just releasing an 5-hours HL2EP3 would suffice, on the current engine, then they can make Half-Life 3 on a new engine without anyone bothering them for a decade; just give people a bit of content to play already after that damn cliffhanger in the last episode. I'd be happy with that.
CaptainGyro: I'm with Titanium's responses on this one, but I'll join anyway because I am a such a nice guy.
Really I don't care all that much. I like Half Life games but I'm not a super huge fan, and I wouldn't be upset if nothing ever came out. But sure why not. I'll join
Thanks, Mr. Nice Guy. :)
Well I'm not that hard of a fanboy too, don't mess with Gmod or anything, but I am a big fan of the HL universe, all the story behind it. Sci-fi stuff.
As a videogame purely, it's not the best shooter and it's too easy. I like the story and Valve's standard in design, psychology and other areas.
KingofGnG: If they won't release the HL-3 monster as soon as it's been announced, we will be able to download a leaked copy of the code from the P2P for sure....
Will you be one of the downloaders? I won't.
That's why I think they would release it like 3 months maximum after an announcement.
Or even go crazy as announcing it on a monday and selling it the following friday.
hedwards: If you want to do something useful, why don't you petition iD to go back to producing tech demos. Some companies should just focus on what they do well. Especially when they do it that well. Epic can handle the more story based game play.
Obviously Valve probably ought to go back to the drawing board and figure out how to release a game, as I doubt HL3 is coming anytime soon. At least not at this rate.
Well I might agree on that, I'd like yes if id and Crytek took a step backwards and go back to making core games/tech demo... without putting lots of effort on consolizing/"accessibility" to their titles, like Rage and Crysis 2.
Rage was looking good when as a tech demo and it would be an open world, and not sliced levels in the appropriate size for consoles. Crysis was better as a more of a giant tech demo with weapons on top of it, yes. Then came Crysis 2 for consoles and once again sliced into smaller levels.
Valve is working on
pre-production of EP3 since beofre EP2 shipped, if they discarded all that, who knows? that's why I and others want communication. Is it on hold? Is it being worked on? etc.
Fenixp: ... Are you really one of those people who thinks that when it uses the same engine, it's an expansion? :D Boy UT3 sure had a LOT of expansions... And don't even get me STARTED on
Dark age of Camelot!
LMAO :)
If people think it this way, Valve then should have named their first game as Half-Quake...
timppu: Probably the same would happen with HL3 as with HL2.
Not sure though, I haven't had enough willpower to buy and play any HL2 episodes, maybe I was expecting some complete pack with all possible episodes and stuff, but apparently no more episodes are coming, if I get some people correctly?
Well that's why they are taking too long, searching for features to exhibit on the next game, just like HL2 features physics as a selling point. What feature or features will it be in the next game? deaf characters? materials that change properties on-the-fly, like from metal to wood to ice to whatever, as use that for a weapon? etc.
Buy the two episodes, they are like $5 to $10. Don't be cheap, EP1 is average but EP2 is good.
