Navagon: Valve are only going to release details as and when it suits them. Groups like this would only convince them that it was worth making. But I think that much has already been established. Hopefully they're not still undecided on making it, so the group is pretty pointless.
Or maybe not. While I personally liked DNF, there were a lot of folks that hated it. I'll have to see what they do with the next installment to see if I need to stop acknowledging further games.

hedwards: They can't release this game. With both Daikatana and DNF released, what else are we going to mock as vaporware?

FraterPerdurabo: Hey we'll always have Black Mesa Source!
HL3 will probably come out before Black Mesa Source!
Honestly, I am prepared to wait. Valve are one of the few current developers releasing consistently high quality games.

And does anyone remember how half life 2 completely and utterly blew everyone away. There was a long wait for that game and expecations were high but valve smashed our expectations.

I have a ton of other games to keep me busy in the mean time. Just let them release it when they are ready and who cares if they give us any info or not.

Make that HL4 and I agree!

I feel the same way. Too bad there are so many more people that feel "GIMME MY GAEM NAO PLZ" is the accepted behavior with highly anticipated games.

Metro09: L4D2 and Portal 2 were basically glorified expansions
You lost all credibility right there. I'm not arguing L4D2 wasn't an expansion (I wouldn't know, as I have played very little of the L4Ds), but Portal 2? A glorified expansion? Seriously?

Actually, you just lost all credibility right there.
I'm with Titanium's responses on this one, but I'll join anyway because I am a such a nice guy.

Really I don't care all that much. I like Half Life games but I'm not a super huge fan, and I wouldn't be upset if nothing ever came out. But sure why not. I'll join

If they won't release the HL-3 monster as soon as it's been announced, we will be able to download a leaked copy of the code from the P2P for sure....

If you want to do something useful, why don't you petition iD to go back to producing tech demos. Some companies should just focus on what they do well. Especially when they do it that well. Epic can handle the more story based game play.

Obviously Valve probably ought to go back to the drawing board and figure out how to release a game, as I doubt HL3 is coming anytime soon. At least not at this rate.

... Are you really one of those people who thinks that when it uses the same engine, it's an expansion? :D Boy UT3 sure had a LOT of expansions... And don't even get me STARTED on Dark age of Camelot!

Worse all those Sierra expansions I mean that expansion... Quest for glory 4 was an amazing side story...
Meh. For some odd reason I liked Halflife 1 (with its expansion packs) more than HL2, maybe the "linear storytelling FPS" was quite a new thing back then. Maybe I was jaded already when HL2 finally arrived.

But at least I played both HL and HL2 through, so they couldn't be all bad (and I think I played all HL1 games through twice in fact, so they were even better than average). Probably the same would happen with HL3 as with HL2.

Not sure though, I haven't had enough willpower to buy and play any HL2 episodes, maybe I was expecting some complete pack with all possible episodes and stuff, but apparently no more episodes are coming, if I get some people correctly?

Portal was quite ok, polished and different enough from the mainstream and the single fast playthrough was enjoyable enough, but unfortunately I noticed that a second playthrough wasn't interesting at all even to relive the funny remarks by the antagonist, so I stopped right there. Since it was a puzzle game, maybe the lack of replay value was to be expected. As if I was interested enough to try (re)play the challenge maps, about as interesting as trying to replay HL2 levels without dying even once (ironman mode) or using only pistol as a weapon...

Do get at least Episode 1, while it was short, it's gameplay was much closer to HL1's and probably DUE to it's shortness, I finished it like 5 times, whenever I just wanted to kill and evening with a good FPS. (that makes it sound like it was 30 minutes long .. No, it lasts about 4.5 hours on first playtrough and then about 4 hours on subsequent playtroughs. And it's really polished and fun!)

Though some would say (me) that Episode 1 brought very little new to the table and was mostly just retreading old ground, and that Episode 2 is the best Half-Life experience there is. The final battle of Episode 2 is a shot of pure adrenaline.
