Since it has a good bit of votes on the Wishlist here, and it really is a fantastic game, I thought I'd let you all know that Valve has now priced Half-life at just $1 on steam:
http://store.steampowered.com/app/70/
I'm adding this to my ever-growing wish list of digital downloads.
Edit: This is a limited-time offer through November 21. Hurry up if you want it cheap!

yeah, it's a great game, and priced just right for anyone who hasn't played it before, but in these days? I mean.. it doesn't feel like it has any relevance.

To what are you referring?

Half-Life 1 doesn't feel relevant today. I mean it is a good old game, but it by any means isn't rare. Waht I like about GOG.com is the titles are generally harder to find (with the exception of epics titles).
I don't think pricing it at one dollar is really going to sway anyone who was a fan or really wanted to play the game, because $9.99 was too expensive. I think they're only going to pickup people who otherwise wouldn't play the game or generally aren't interested in the first place.
I disagree with you about Half-life not being relevant. It was the first truly FPS cinematic experience, where the story unfolded around you. And like some of the games here on GOG, I have truly great memories of playing through it as a kid.
I had been wanting to get Half-life on steam for a while now, but since I have played it many times before, didn't want to spend the $10. But at $0.98, I'll be getting it.
Never heard of Loss Leaders? Mark my words in a few days Steam will point out that in the 'last year' it doubled it's subscribers - without saying half of that was people having to sign up in order to get the 99c half Life!
The wealth of great mods for the original HL make it a worthy purchase, if one hasn't played them.

a thousand dummy subscribers who never login to use their game more than once?
Man, I have Half-Life, HL2 Collectors, TF Source, Orange Box and never play any of them, ever. I just do not like Steam and dislike its online attitude to playing games. I have tried it two or three times and without fail I end up uninstalling it after about a week.
I know some really like Steam, but for me it is too invasive.

I don't understand people's problem with Steam. I just don't think I ever will. Unless your system is horribly optimized or configured. I have Steam running the background along with whatever apps I happen to be using with no problem whatsoever.
Even if you don't like the community aspect of it, how can you deny the convenience of having a whole library at your disposal that you can install/uninstall as you please. I know some people say that you don't technically "own" the games. You have to be online to verify, authenticate, etc, etc. All I can say is, it must suck to live in dark ages.

I'm not a huge fan of Steam either. I'd gladly pay GOG $6 for a DRM-free version than Steam for a $1 version. However, since it seems I have no choice currently, I've just bought my $1 version. If gog ever secures the rights to distribute Half-life (i know, i know...), I'll rebuy it from here. But for now.. come on, what can you actually buy for a dollar these days?

Gee, Wec... retrosnob much? >.<
I got mine earlier today. I played the game for a couple of hours back in '98, and just recently beat HL2. I'm pumped. And you can't beat the price...

See what I mean about newer games being better? I love Half-life 1 for what it was revolutionizing the FPS genre and all. But going back to play it, the game had some technical limitations and weapon balance issues. Half-life 2 improved on all the first game's shortcomings.
@bpops: bought, thanks for info!
