Just asking this here for all the knowledgeable people on here who might know the answer to this.
Tonight my Episode 1 and Episode 2 flagged themselves for update that required them to be converted to the new SteamPipe format.
Now, I can see from the Steam client that Episode 2 is around 6GB in size, yet when I search my steamapps folder for Episode 2 files I can only find the following:
A 500MB GCF file (half-life 2 episode two english.gcf) in steamapps
A folder in "steamapps\<user>\half-life 2 episode two" which is 84.1MB
A folder in "steamapps\common\Half-Life 2\ep2" which is 283MB
Now clearly those do not total up to 6GB, so where are the game files stored? Also, aren't the GCF file and the <user> folder obsolete now that it is in SteamPipe format?
I have noticed that since the conversion there is an update pending, so that will be downloaded shortly, but I wouldn't have thought that would make much difference to the above files unless it turns out to be a large update.
Anyone know anything about this?
EDIT: Just checked my Portal install as that converted some time ago now, and though Steam lists it as 5320MB in the local content menu, and 4.09GB in the game library, I can only find about 1.2GB of files, again being GCF and folders in both steamapps\<user> and steamapps\common. So where are the game files?
UPDATE: Okay, after all the updates finished the folder size for "steamapps\common\Half-Life 2\ep2" has increased to 3.16GB. Still not at the 6GB size, but clearly better. It could be that the reported sizes in Steam local files dialog menu are inaccurate as SteamPipe is supposed to be more efficient with smaller file sizes, but still having the GCF and files in steamapps\<user> does seem a little odd now that it is SteamPipe format.
