That was fantastically geeky :-D As you can tell, I was reminded of the movie War Games, where David Lightman, the protagonist, also uses an analog modem of this type to connect to other computers, albeit a somewhat newer model than this one.

Anyways, that is an excellent video. It almost makes me want to try and experiment with old equipment and see what works. Poland should have tons of this stuff somewhere, especially since IBM did come here. Maybe I should go rooting around.

I can't imagine trying to surf sites like GOG with that though :P.

That's very cool that such an old piece of equipment still works.

That was cool. So much in fact, that the following occurred:

I watched video, found it cool, sent link to another (computer geek) friend.
She watched it, though it was cool, posted link in an IRC channel she's in.
One person in the IRC channel who has very little interest in how computers work, gets confused by "Technobabble", even if it is light technobabble.. thought it was cool.

So it's official. It transcends the geek/non-geek division!

Awesome find. I've thought of trying to do something related - getting a computer connected through a phone modem, through some form of tunneling/proxying server, onto a modern connection (fibre, cable, DSL, mobile 3/4G...). Trouble is, since I don't want to get hit by costs-by-the-minute, I'll need to have a tiny private phone network, and I have no idea what equipment I'd need, or even if my rough overview idea of the solution is correct.

Like watching paint dry. 30 bytes a second, if you get a good connection. The second place I worked had one of those. (The first place, we sent 1/2-inch tapes through the mail.) We later upgraded to a 1200 baud model, and then to a 9600 baud Telebit Trailblazer, and we really thought we were something.

The old days of baud and when we used BBS to communicate around the world. I still bare the scars my mom gave me when she got the phone bill! LOL
