I guess there's always a first time for the most non-misleading and direct titles of mine.

Anyway, do any of you guys play Guild Wars? I've got the complete pack (Without EoTN) half a year ago, and haven't actually touched the game. Now I've decided to try it out.

Any of you guys playing?

PS Help me choose class. :<
I use to play it a lot back when I first got it (about 4-5 years ago). But I got burnt out on it after about 3 years of many, many hours on it daily. I still go back to it every once in awhile for the festivals and to check on my characters to see if any of them had birthdays, but that's mostly it for me.

It is a really fun game (helps if you can get one or two friends to play with, grab a couple heroes each if you have Nightfall, and just have at it). My main class was a Mesmer, but I ended up buying enough character slots so I could try one of each class. Mesmer, Elementalist, Ritualist, Assassin, it's kinda hard to go wrong with any of them really.
I've been playing it on and off for years now. I really like it and always return to it after a pause.

For starting out, I recommend creating a ranger, elementalist, or necromancer, depending on your preferences. The ranger is the toughest of the three (in terms of hardiness, not difficulty ;) ), the elementalist does more damage, and the necromancer starts out as a vampire type who can do damage and heal himself at the same time.

I wouldn't recommend the other classes for a beginner. Warriors are okay to play in single player, but you'll annoy people in multiplayer to no end if you don't know how to pull and maintain aggro properly. Monks have little to do except healing their party members (unless they go the smiting route), which is a very special form of gameplay that few people enjoy. Mesmers are absolutely great _if_ you know what the enemies are doing and how to counter it, which you don't as a beginner. Ritualists are surprisingly easy to play, but keeping track of all those spirits can be difficult for a beginner. Assassins require special hit-and-run tactics that may be difficult for a beginner. Paragons are an odd mix (highly armored ranged fighter) whose main feature is buffing the party; good if you know what you're doing, but a bit complicated to get into. Dervishes are good quick fighters, but only available in Nightfall.

However, _every_ character can be fun, even the more difficult ones have enough time and opportunities to develop, and you can always create a new one if you want. The three I first mentioned are just noticeably easier to get into than the others, imho. Also, you don't need to worry about going a wrong path with any character, you can completely respec as often as you like.

To start out, choose Prophecies if you want a looong and detailed tutorial, or Factions if you want to get to the game's hubs fast.

If you like, add "Vyrah Thorne" to your friend list. That's me, IÄ'll probably be on a bit in the next few days.

I'll probably be taking a necromancer. Ritualist would be my first pick, but I really dislike the Asian environment, I don't even know why, I used to like it a lot a few years ago. Maybe you can burn out on stuff like that too.

Are there any ways I can really screw my character up, or everything can be redone? (Like stats, builds and... well, anything.)

I don't really want a long tutorial or rushing to the hubs, which one has the most interesting story? I see a lot of people suggesting to start with Nightfall. Why not start with the original, assuming you don't want any of the Nightfall professions?

I play on and off. I am a Ranger/Necro. It is one of the best MMOs out there. :D
Rohan The Raven is my character FYI

Profanity: snip
I think you can play the newbie area and leave at level 10 to the other areas.

Not at all. You can totally respec your character as often as you like, for no cost.

Story-wise I liked Nightfall teh most too, though the other two aren't bas either. The reason why I don't usually recommend it for starting characters is that it takes a relatively long time for a Nightfall character to get access to the other provinces. If you want to benefit from the "extras" (e.g. each day there is one mission and one enemy that give you additional gold, experience, and special tokens), then you want to get access to all areas quickly. If you rather want to play one story after the other, then this doesn't matter, and Nightfall would be a good choice.

Starting with the original is okay too, but again it means that you're locked in that chapter for a very long time (though there are shortcuts if you really want to get to the others). Prophecies also has the slowest character progression, but if you don't want to peek into the other chapters quickly with that char, then that's not a problem either.

Thanks for the info! Though, you both signed your death warrants by giving me your names, you shall be bombarded with questions.

Feel free to discuss Guild Wars, if desired.
Good luck with that, considering even though I've played on and off for about 4 years, I only know enough to get around. :P
Guild wars is one of my favorite games. All the professions have their own pros and cons. Here are some resources to help get you going:
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Main_Page (be sure to check out their description on the professions)
http://www.gwpvx.com/PvX_wiki (good resource for builds)
http://pvx.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page

Assassins: These guys are hit and run, and are popular for doing speed clears. The downside is that they take a lot of practice to get good at.
Elementals- typical dps class. One of the most popular builds for them is running a searing flames build. They are also frequently used in elite areas for bonding players.
Ritualists: These guys are cool. They are frequently used for summoning spirits and having them fight with you. Be sure to get the skill Signet of Spirits. They also make decent healers and can buff other players with weapon spells.
Warriors: Your typical tanking class.
Dervish: They are basically mystic warriors. They use scythes to help chop down their enemies and use enchantments to compensate for having a slightly weaker armor then the warriors. Their main goal is to put pressure on the enemy.
Paragons: These guys have been nerfed badly, I don't recommend them. Their specialty is buffing other players.
Mesmers: As someone who plays an elemental, these guys are my biggest pain in the rear. Their specialty is shutting the enemy down and countering their attacks.
Monks: Typical healing class. They can do some decent farming too if you are willing to run a 55 build
Rangers: These guys are pretty flexible; shut down, beast trainer, pressure, etc. They are basically the jack of all trades.
Necromancer: They get their power from the deaths of their enemies. They are good at punishing the enemy by really weakening them and decreases hp. They also can summon the undead and run a minion master build.

Regardless of what class you choose you still have a lot of flexibility with how you play. All it takes is a little bit of patience and creativity. This is just a basic overview and it really does depend on how you want to play. Are you a mid-liner, support, or like being in the front line?

My main toons are ele, rit, and warrior. I like being the nuker.

edit: While prophecies may take the longest to get through at the beginning, you can easily skip the first chapter by getting a run to lion's arch. From their you can get to other campains and EoTN. Plus, you get your heroes early.

Same here, I may have beaten all the campaigns, but I don't know much about builds... I just go with what I like, which oftentimes isn't what I should be doing xD

That's why I have a friend or two that are far more into that whole bit of the game that can help me out if I'm screwing up the questing :)

Fire away. :) Though it's possible that I can't answer depending on what I'm currently doing - but I usually try to. :)

The official Guild Wars Wiki has a wealth of information (much more than any single player can have), and it's even linked into the game. In-game, press F10 (Help), and you'll see a list of help topics. These are topics related to your current locations, quests, recently bought skills, recently encountered enemies and _their_ spells, etc. Clicking on the topic takes you to your browser and opens the respective wiki page. You can also use a search function to access any other topic. In 95% of cases this page should have the info you're looking for, the only possible problem is that it may actually hold too much info. Personally, I enjoy finding things out myself, so I try to not use the wiki too often. As a result, my characters' build are probably suboptimal, but I simply enjoy tinkering with them. It sometimes can lead to interesting results (Years back, when everyone was convinced that Necros were crap, I had several working builds that continued to amaze my party members. That was kind of cool. :) )
I used to play, but I can't remember my character's name, so I can't log in anymore :3
I still have it but to be honest i didn't play it much but i try to lately to get the hall of monument items ready for GW2.

Anyone got any good tips for getting that stuff btw? They all seem really hard and look like they need a lot of time investment, which don't get me wrong is fine but will it take a ton of hours to get at least 30/50 for Hall of monuments?

You should contact support then. If you still have the keys and use the email address that you signed up with, you should have no problem getting your account back. Even if you don't have the keys it is still worth the time to contact them.

I don't know which email I signed up with, actually (I used to keep quite a few, back in the day) and I accidentally threw away the keys with the box when my mum told me to clean out my video game box collection.
