Do you think one day GOG.com will secure the licenses to GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas? I would love to hear your thoughts. I think it would rival System Shock 2 coming to GOG.

Take-Two are not a signed publisher sadly, But GTA 1, 2, 3, Vice City, and San Andreas would be very welcome in GOG.

Can't say about 4 though because of its online componant, and the fact that most fans hate it despite me loving it. And I hated GTA 3.

Elmofongo: Take-Two are not a signed publisher sadly, But GTA 1, 2, 3, Vice City, and San Andreas would be very welcome in GOG.

I have all 4 on Steam, but still would love to see them on here for those that don't use Steam for pc gaming.

Unfortunately, according to GOG, Take-Two Interactive currently insists on having DRM in their games. So at least for the moment, GOG is unable to get them to sign up.

It's a shame, since Take-Two has quite a few games I would love to see on the service, particularly The Clue! and the GTA games.

I may have asked this before, but I guess I forgot, so I hope nobody minds me asking again.

Rockstar(?) hosted GTA 1 and 2 on their site for the longest time, for free. GTA 1 and 2 are not available for purchase on their own through steam (you can only get it along with some other GTA game).
If I find those same files (for 1 and 2) hosted somewhere else on the web, it is perfectly fine for me to download it, right? Or wrong? I'm almost certain I downloaded them when they released them for free (along with Warcraft 1...and maybe 2 released by Blizzard), but it is in some ancient backup CD somewhere.

We don't need the GTA games here. All they are is a bunch of malicious behavior and senseless violence. Oh sure they might appeal to the bottom 1% of this forum but the rest of the us, the sophisticated and intellectual, have no want or need for such crass gaming.

Now if you'll excuse me I have to go play Postal.

Well, if they can't be purchased legally, most people will say that it's OK. It may not be OK legally, but it would be as far as common sense morality is concerned.

Nonono, I understand the abandonware argument, but in this specific case, GTA1 and 2 were available for completely free, officially and legally, on their website. Does the fact that the official distributor STOPPED hosting those files, but still doesn't sell them anywhere (on their own) change that? I know it is not like open source or anything, but can a game be unfreed after it was given for free?

Yes, it can. Wing Commander was given away for free for a time. Now, it's sold here.

I'm here to please.

As for the issue of the older GTA games....even though they were offered for free (at least for a time), I would still buy them if they showed up on GOG. Especially since the freeware version of GTA 1 lacked the London, 1969 mission pack.

Actually the X-COM classics are DRM-free on GamersGate, so I think the main reason the games aren't here is because of regional pricing.

Wing Commander was free at some point? When? By who? Where? :D
To be totally exact, though, gog isn't selling Wing Commander, it is selling a Wing Commander 1+2 pack. :P

You know what? I actually rechecked the conference where they talked about Take-Two and Capcom and...you're absolutely right. It wasn't the DRM, but the regional pricing and restrictions they wanted:
