cw8: I bought the boxed set the first day it released for the PC. Luckily I didn't encounter any problems unlike so many other people. Maybe because I was using the Quad Core then.
Same. I bought the original boxed game and the two expansions on disc and it all worked pretty flawless and the games are amazing. I had to have the distance bars at about half but max settings otherwise, ran fine.

It bums me out that the reception to the game on PC is likely why we are not getting Red Dead Redemption.
Have never played the GTA4 episodes because they never have the episodes on sale apart from the main game and it's too expensive to buy the episodes by themselves. =\

They're both like 10-15 hours long, making for 30 hours of content. That's without much side stuff or collecting anything too. They were well worth the day-one price of $30 if you ask me.
I bought GTA 4 for 360 when it was kinda new... because Blockbuster was selling a used copy and some employee mistakenly put a $10 tag on it, even when 40 to 50 was still the going rate. :-)

Starting with GTA4, I don't play those kind of games on the PC anymore. Aside from all the issues with that title in general, I think the xBox controller is a better way to play, so why not enjoy it in my living room?

That said, I played San Andreas on PC, and I think it not only rocked, but I think it was a better game. More area... three cities and a lot a rural land. So many more vehicles, mini-games, and ways to customize the character. I like 4 a lot, but SA is still my favorite.

Haven't bought the GTA4 expansions yet, but I definitely will.
Got the pack on Steam during a Christmas promo. Runs fine on my comp, but I haven't had yet the time to really play it. I plan to, maybe as soon as I will have finished the Witcher 2.

There was one thing II was not happy with vanilla GTAIV, the game only allowed the XBOX controller before the patch came in. I had to dl the gamepad emulator to enable my Logitech Gamepad.

If anything Rockstar should've listened to the complaints and made better future ports instead of just simply boycotting the PC altogether. Oh well their loss.
I have 3 copies of it. Got the Xbox Collectors Edition on release, then PC retail when that came out, and i finally got it on Steam too when it was on sale.

I kind of like it.
I didn't like that game so much. It was boring, I played until one of Packie's (I think that's what his name was?) missions and I had really zero motivation to continue.
On the other hand I wished for everyone appearing in this game to die a slow and horrible death including the main character, which I give the game some redeeming points for :P
GTA IV. Had a very well done world to play in. Had some memorable characters. Gameplay wise I feel it's the weakest of the GTA games.
The graphics are not as colourful or fun as the previous, yes I know it's because the previous games couldn't handle as detailed textures and they went with design over it instead. The handling of the cars just isn't as fun as the previous ones, instead opting for semi-realism, it just frustrated me to not be able to do all those insane things anymore. And the missions were...okay I guess.
I guess it's my fault, I play games to have fun which seems to be a sin by now. The world is impressive, really it is. But for me the high point is still Vice City, and no the Gay Tony episode didn't get anywhere near that experience.
I did however find one thing fun about Lost and Damned. Their graphics filter made it possible for me to take a screenshot, reduce it to a 256 color gif, and until you looked at details, when put next to each other you couldn't tell the difference between the 32-bit and 8-bit image. So far technology's come these last 10 years when it's now possible to make a game in an 8-bit colour palette punishing to a computer.

I'm just glad I didn't buy it when it was just released on the PC, I would've felt ripped off. Thankfully the included Customer Prevention system (also known as Digital Rights Management) put me off getting the game until Direct2Drive had it on sale for around $8...who says copy protection is good for nothing ;-)

As for red dead, got it on the XBox. Just like GTA IV it looks nice. I'm torn between whether I should consider it an interactive screensaver or a casual game. It's good for just falling onto the couch when you're not up to playing a demanding game.
Never actually played a GTA game. Was thinking about picking up GTA 4 a while back but I'm not really a huge fan of open world games.

GamersGate were selling the episode DLC for €4 each in a sale.

cw8: I prefer Vice City :D
Vice City is one of the best games ever made. It actually makes me depressed reading news about GTA V because it's looks like we are off to Vice City again but PC gamers aren't invited this time :(

One thing console kiddies will never understand is GTA totally transforms on the PC when you can simply dick around with mods and trainers.

Vice City is definitely my favourite Vice City. I liked it enough to actually take the time to find 90 secret packages by myself without any guide or reference, enough to get the Tank to spawn in the garage then gave up for the remaining 10.

Maybe down the line it might make it to PC. Considering GTA 1 initially released on PSX and PC. GTA Vice itself was released on the PS2 exclusively, but still a year or two after it was released on the PC. Until that time the official statement was mostly "We have no plans for releasing the game on PC"

But with RDR not yet getting to PC it might be a bad indication. But GTA 3 vs GTA IV, the indication is the PC gamers might dodge the bullet of having fond memories of Vice City butchered

Red Dead and LA Noir. It seems Rockstar are finished with the PC. At least I will assume so until someone from Rockstar says otherwise.
