Niggles: nvm

Cost efficient my ass. Its laziness.Especially when there *are* drm free versions available they could have supplied. Instead they dump Steam keys some of us do not want. Its all well and fine for some Steam fanatics like yourself, but some of us prefer not to have to keep adding to our steam libraries thanks.

amok: steam agnostic... I do not mind where I get my games, but unlike you, I can see why developers do it.
Then dev's only have themselves to blame when they miss out on that segment who don't give a XXXX about Steam.

I can see your point for games that don't have a DRM-free version yet. But if one exists, is it really that much work to send that download and eventually updates to Groupees? Especially when we are talking about old games like The Longest Journey that probvably won't get many updates in the future.

Psyringe: I think the problem lies in the composition rather than the DRM.
avatar
Niggles: For a bunch of people it will be the lack of DRM free. Two games. That's pretty much it. That's why i passed on it as well.
I see three DRM-free games, but yeah, it's sad that at least two other games are provided only as Steam keys when a DRM-free version would have been available.

It's undoubtedly true that this will cause "a bunch of people" to not buy the bundle, I just think that the other two factors I mentioned (weak 1$ tier, and 33 other bundles being offered right now) have a much higher impact on the sales numbers.

And I honestly do not think that such a segment is large enough to be cost efficient. Maybe if they started buying bundles for more than the minimal cost? But from what I see in this forum, those people are few and far between.

Everything costs. I can see why a "fire and forget" method of Steam or Desura keys works for cheap bundles.

No way for you to know how large or small that segment is. If dev's choose to ignore it, thats their choice. But at price of losing potential money if they ignore it. As i said there is no way to guage that segment size.
Your making a strong assumption there.
It might also have something to do with key sharing. Just look around in this forum. Many people buy a bundle, keep the DRM-free download and give away the Steam and/or Desura keys. I can understand that developers don't want that especially if they just get some cents from each sold bundle.

Indeed I do, based on all the people complaining in these threads that a $5 bundle is too expensive. I see that quite a lot around here.

And I also base it on how many steam users there actually are, and how many gamers that just don't care about DRM. (which again relates to how many Steam, Origin, UPlay, etc users there are). I would make the hypothesis that most gamers are like me, store and DRM agnostic as long as it works, and care a lot more about just playing the games. There are a few Steam fanatics and anti-Steam fanatics, but with like most fanatics - they are in a minority.

We have been here before. Prove me wrong, and I will reconsider.

Which is also an issue, yes.

edit: which when you come to think about it is quite hypocritical - "I detest Steam, it is the root to all evil in gaming. Here, have my Steam key"....

Neither do you. Which makes your assumption of "Cost efficient my ass. Its laziness." just as strong. But somehow that does only count for others, right? :)

I have that one, and it's super nice and cute. Totally recommended for platformer lovers ^_^
The mystery game is another Steam-only game? *sigh*

I really hoped for something that would convince me to get the bundle. But it seems my wallet is safe...
Bonuses up to 6 have been unlocked, bonus seven is Alcarys Complex at 17500 bundles.
All bonuses unlocked.
