I don't even understand.

Why use Kickstarter just to make another generic ARPG, I mean it's not like the Action Role-playing genre is weak or anything, there's more titles coming out all the time. Looks utterly boring to me, 3D looks ugly and the whole "bright lights" effects everywhere for spells is eye cancer.
$3500 to go! :D

EDIT: What the... I could have sworn they were at $279,500 earlier.

Could you name at least a few of those "another generic ARPGs"? Is there anything else going on except for Torchlight 2 (and MMO-ish Diablo III)? Maybe I've missed something lately...

Considering graphics, I think that technically it's really good and the art style is a matter of taste. To me it looks amazingly good.

Heck, Titan Quest still looks really good even now, almost 6 years later.
In fact, I'd say it looks as good if not better than Diablo 3 at the same zoom level - and it definitely runs a lot better (constant 120+ FPS in Titan Quest: Immortal Throne at max settings with AA versus ~27 FPS in Diablo 3 at max settings without AA... and that's not taking into account the net lag issues D3 suffers from).

Crosmando: another generic ARPG
As for calling Grim Dawn generic, it does quite a few things differently to other recent ARPGs:

-> Non-linear progression
-> Post-apocalyptic fantasy Victorian era setting
-> Combine any two of five character classes, each with their own fairly large skill tree
-> Faction system

...
Well, that's the point. It was 6 years ago and from that time no one has made anything that good in this genre.

Its use true Line of Site, and destructible environments with random path generation... You can effectively hide in a house prior to a group of enemies seeing you and they will walk past you unless you engage them

Nice - didn't know the AI worked by true line of sight.

$71 to go :D

Looks like they could reach the funding goal today...

EDIT: Woah, someone just backed $1000

FUNDED! :D
Gentlemen, Grim Dawn have reached the goal, and is hopefully becoming a reality now!

Let's hope the total ammount pass $500k (including the promised large donation) before the time runs out.

It might be a stretch, but i am hoping ;)
Bit too lazy to look through the backer comments but, anyone know anything about the expansion?. Will it be a true expansion or a DLC ? ;). (** looks through the tiers to find one to upgrade to**)

I'm guessing the GD expansion will be to Grim Dawn as Immortal Throne was to Titan Quest - most likely some significant improvements to the existing game as well as a fairly large amount of new areas.
I don't know if there's been much information released about it yet - I suspect they just want to finish the main game before they think too much about post-release stuff.
Over $316,500 pledged so far, Update 10 (with Arcanist gameplay video) is now viewable by non-backers, and GameSpy just did a hands-on preview.

Total of $400,438 is now pledged with 58 hours left!

Seriously hoping for a giant rush in the end ;)

They have added a number of new reward tiers recently. You can now "pre-order" the first expansion if you up your pledge by about $10 from certain levels.
Fucking sweet. I'm really pumped for this. Plus, Arthur and co. have so far been really upfront and forthcoming about the Kickstarter drive, their goals and the game. These guys are real bros.
Btw Arthur has told me that the costs of the producing the box at the $100 and $150 tier will be quite high due to a small volume of backers. They're currently undecided between the smaller one (still cardboard), and the big, old school type. I've backed the $100 one though. No qualms, nothing whatsoever. This is going to be such a bro game.
