langurmonkey: Stop trolling or being an asshole. I think hardcore fans deserve the collection for a reasonable amount of money. People deserve to be happy.

gameon: Well the way the free market works, people can name their price. If someone buys it at a crazy price, then they are foolish or rich.

I'm not saying that extortionate prices are a good thing, i'm just saying that it happens, and there's nothing we can do about it. Just worry about your own handling of money, and make sure you don't get ripped off. Which i'm sure you wont, as you sound sensible with your purchases.
I know that is how it works. I'm just unleashing my rage against insane and immoral price gouging.

KyleKatarn: Fuck you.

langurmonkey: How about when you are starving with no money and a piece of bread is $1400, I tell you "Don't buy it if you don't want to spend that kind of money. Or do you think that piece of bread deserves to belong to you?". This thread isn't about me BTW. This thread is about insane and immoral price gouging.
You don't need dvd's to survive. And that dvd collection is just a drop in the ocean, nothing to worry about at all.

KyleKatarn: Just pirate it! :P

Make your own bread if it gets that bad too. Necessity is the mother of invention.
I know there are plenty of ways to not give these people your money and still get what you want. I know only the foolish or rich will pay such prices but I still feel the need to unleash my rage against such insane and immoral behavior. It's good not to bottle shit up inside.

Understandable. I think it's immoral to try claim it should be illegal though. Old kids toys from the 1950's sell for very high prices today. Many of the buyers are recollecting their childhood.

I disagree. Entertainment is just as important as food and water for many of us. Entertainment is food for the mind and makes people happy. A life without happiness is no life. And in the eyes of a hardcore Sharpe fan, I imagine the DVD or Bluray collection with the wooden box and pewter letter opening is a long time of happiness. Personally I can live without the wooden box and the letter opener but I'm not a hardcore fan of anything.

I am not an outgoing person, and i enjoy watching tv shows and playing games, but we can survive without them. If we don't eat or drink for a certain amount of time, we die. It's a fact of life.

If you shop around, you can find sharpe dvd's (even old vhs videos if you want ultra cheap. You may even be able to get them for free, and transfer them to dvd). It's not the end of the world.

Put me on the "If you disagree with me, then obviously you are a insanely greedy sack of shit with no morals" list.

LOL at overblown outrage for something nobody is forced to, or needs to, buy.

It's not overblown outrage. Your kind of attitude is why so many fucked up things are happening nowadays.

langurmonkey: For the price of a used DVD collection in "acceptable" condition, you can buy a new and powerful gaming PC + some games... This kind of insane immoral greed is why the world today is messed up.
This 'immoral greed' wouldn't go anywhere if there weren't people out there willing to pay the asking price.

Me too. I would have to counter-argument with that one of the reason the world is in a worse shape than it can be, specifically the economy, is because most people lack the fundamental understanding of it. FYI, that includes me too :P

It's a free market. I don't see the problem. If you don't want to pay for their price, don't pay. In fact, this how capitalism works, if you want them to not screw some poor schmuck then go out in the world, work hard and make your money and buy it and save someone the trouble. You're obviously trying to look out for others or did I miss your point? I probably did.

Okay, but seriously: how 'desperate' can you be for a television series? I honestly see no problem with this guy selling for whatever price he wants. If someone is stupid enough to pay that much, they're... well, stupid.

I just think the world would be better place without the kind of people who take advantage of capitalism like that. And what I saw enraged me so decided to use GOG general discussion to vent like so many other people.

Hardcore fans? I don't know why you are okay with someone being a douchebag... It seems what Tony Montana said in the movie Scarface is true. "You know what capitalism is? Getting fucked!"

Sorry, but I actually don't think it's douchebags like this that's what's wrong with the world. I think it's people that can't control their own spending impulses and then want to blame the other guy because he charged them too much. It's why we have millions of people running around pissing and moaning about how much debt they're in and how they can't understand why they owe so much, as they go and buy yet another luxury item that they can't actually afford.

Seriously, if you've got the money for this and feel like spending that much, there's no issue. If you don't have the money for this and spend it anyway, then you're an idiot and have no one to blame but yourself.

The desperate people would be collectors and high prices sometimes go with the territory. People desperate to see it, but can't get hold of it normally, pirate it.

People list things at stupid prices sometimes, they sell or they don't. If you don't like it then you don't buy it. If you really want this and don't want to pirate it, shop around a bit, you might be able to import it. It might take some extra things to be able to watch it but in the end it will be a much more reasonable price than that.
