a lot more reasonable :)
Looks like it's missing Sharpe's Peril (though that may be included with Sharpe's Challenge.) I picked them up for £17.99 here in the UK a couple of years back so I'd recommend looking at importing.

You can also get the whole collection cheap from Amazon.de
http://www.amazon.de/Die-Scharfsch%C3%BCtzen-Collection-Vol-1-Collectors/dp/B00427ILZ8/ref=sr_1_3?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1354318459&sr=1-3

No wooden box, certificate and letter opener but 50 euro...

Bluray collection for 60 euro...

crazy_dave: wow ... that is a really good series, but wow. The Sharpe series was always a bit overpriced (selling one episode per DVD) when it was being sold - but I think the collector's edition was a lot more reasonable that that when it first came out! I guess it must be out of print now so that if you have a copy and are willing to part with it you can charge an exorbitant amount. Still I can't imagine there will be any takers at that price.

langurmonkey: One thing funny is that you can get a superior version of this collection for around $220. Bluray is superior to DVD. The quality difference is huge.
http://www.amazon.com/Sharpes-Collectors-Blu-ray-Sean-Bean/dp/B004SB6006/ref=sr_1_8?s=movies-tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1354317644&sr=1-8&keywords=sharpe

So to ask people around $1400 for the DVD collection is not only immoral, in my opinion but also insane.
Did they actually enhance the picture quality for the Bluray version or something?
Rare items that are desirable can be expensive. What's the big deal? There are worn video games that have gone for sums make that look like chump change.

The big deal is this kind of behavior is insane and immoral. If you disagree with me, then obviously you are an insanely greedy sack of shit with no morals. A used DVD collection in a wooden box with a pewter letter opener advertised for around $1400 and you say "What's the big deal?"...

If someone pays, then it's like.. "Why didn't I ask more?"

It is one thing, to ask for an extra hundred or two hundred for a rare and desirable item like a DVD collection in a wooden box with a letter opener. People need to make money. It is another thing to raise the price by over a thousand dollars for such an item. Once a certain point is passed, it is obvious the person selling is an insanely greedy sack of shit with no morals. The end.

It couldn't be any simpler. Don't buy it if you don't want to spend that kind of money. Or do you think this collection deserves to belong to you?

Edit: How about this, you just pirate them and burn your own DVDs.

Stop trolling or being an asshole. I think hardcore fans deserve the collection for a reasonable amount of money. People deserve to be happy.

How about when you are starving with no money and a piece of bread is $1400, I tell you "Don't buy it if you don't want to spend that kind of money. Or do you think that piece of bread deserves to belong to you?". This thread isn't about me BTW. This thread is about insane and immoral price gouging.

Well the way the free market works, people can name their price. If someone buys it at a crazy price, then they are foolish or rich.

I'm not saying that extortionate prices are a good thing, i'm just saying that it happens, and there's nothing we can do about it. Just worry about your own handling of money, and make sure you don't get ripped off. Which i'm sure you wont, as you sound sensible with your purchases.

Just pirate it! :P

Make your own bread if it gets that bad too. Necessity is the mother of invention.
