Interesting. I have BoF 4, but I've never got it to work under Windows 7. Could be a hardware-related issue then. That being said, even when I was running it under Windows XP, it always crashed without fail on the campfire scene...

Anyone, i think Western companies should try a hand at it, cause we miss out on some many these days (and don't get me started on how most Japanese companies seem to insist on re-using the same tropes over and over as well as that 'Art Style', if you can even call it that, Moe.

I would buy the Ys remakes without hesitation, but I expect that those will remain shackled to Steam for the foreseeable future.

Other than that, no, probably not. I don't generally like JRPGs.

You might be interested in Pier Solar, a JRPG which should be released sometime around December. The developers already released an older version of it on the Genesis, so it should be authentic. They used a kickstarter to fund the HD version

There is also Boot Hill Heroes, another Kickstarter JRPG for the PC. The graphics are in the style of Earthbound, and the game is supposed to include multi-player control of each party member. I am a bit doubtful about the effectiveness of this in a JRPG, but the PAX video does show promise for the visuals and setting at least. The game is a bit late for release and is still under development, so I recommend not getting your hopes up until it is done.

Nothing a few tweaks or unofficial patches can't fix, I guess. Crashing PC games aren't too much of an issue or indeed anything new to me, though; I'm an Obsidian fan.

I remember when I was looking around a few years ago, there really weren't many fixes, and the ones that existed were spotty at best. I'm sure by now there's is probably something, though.

And you're not the only Obsidian fan. :)

Do you have the version that was on the "Games aktuell"-CD?

I recently started Vagrant Story on ePSXe, something I meant to do since like a year ago. Not sure yet what to think about the game, at least the whole "disassemble and re-assemble weapons" system seems quite complicated.

I think I should sometime finish Xenogears too.

I played quite a lot of it (not on a recent machine, mind) and recall a control bug in the menu system and lamentably low-res.-only FMVs, but no crashes.

Since I was on consoles most of my life, what I'd really want was to see a large number of Dreamcast games ported since I never had that one. It can't be hard since SEGA has a few, but I'd like to see others. I hear Skies of Arcadia was very good.

It really looks pretty cool.

Having said that, I would love to see a more modern looking game from the genre.

I think that a huge role of JRPG appeal is the combat system. Developers of those games just seem to be way more creative then western game makers. I would love for Bioware or Obsidian to experiment more with turn combat, action time battle systems or whatnot.

Somebody mentioned the Last Remnant. The graphics of the game look great but isn't it a pretty "meh" titile? I might want to hunt it down on steam, but I need a second opinion, help me out here. :)

And as far as Dreamcast games are concerned, there is some hope, as SEGA has released several dreamcast titles on Steam (I own the Steam version of Jet Set Radio, which is simply awesome)

Oh, and I did vote for Grandia II here on GOG, maybe some day...

i think Sudeki is a hidden gem. It's a pretty good game that was completely forgotten. I wouldn't really call it a JRPG, though. It's more like an action RPG and it was made by a Western company.
And it's really expensive nowadays.

Septerra core here on gog is pretty much JRPGish, both in good and bad way.

I played it years ago and it ran perfectly fine on my computer at the time. I finished the game twice without any crashes whatsoever.
