Ummm... I don't think Google "knows" anything. It's merely a set of algorithms that collect data as you go along to better tailor search results and ads to your wants and needs. It is only by ANALOGY that we compare it to an all-knowing being.
Are you going to avoid talking to anyone about anything just because background checks exist ? Just because it is theoretically possible to find something out about you, it doesn't mean that people are going to unless there are good reasons for that... and even then - you shouldn't be concerned unless you did something you shouldn't ever do in the first place.

You might as well complain about "people who bought this also bought" or even as simple features as a wishlist. Guess what - there are plenty who'd like to make this information PUBLIC; on this very forum.

Also - I'd like to remind you of what we've learned from that thread where a guy posted an entire private conversation with GR: if you are paranoid, focus on ordinary people. It's a lot more likely that someone is going to overhear your conversation in a bar or browse through your paper diary than that anyone at any point is going to hack into your Google account and analyze the *** out of all your online data.

Bing user. I can't imagine going without youtube, but that's signed through a yahoo email, and I don't use google's search engine. So, for the most part I'm covered.

Pretty bad comparison, there is a world of difference between between somebody trying to do a background check on somebody else, trying to have access to often not public information, and a private company who already has all of this information available in it's system, has nearly full control over it and not to mention a company whose job is to sell said information to announcers.

Well there is this weird notion of "choice" where peoples could decide on their own what they want to share and what they don't want to... just because you accept to share a wishlist doesn't mean you accept to share everything else.
