Keep a good balance of old and new, and sign me up!

The forums will need to be divided into 2 super main sections to maintain quality. Users will be sent to each after a test where you have to choose which image you like more: a soldier guy covered in strawberry jam, or the SNES cover of [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Phalanx_Coverart.png]Phalanx[/url].

I also fully support this. The primary draw of GOG to me is the attitude towards the customer, with DRM-free-ness being the most tangible part of it. I signed up when they did the no-IP check thing with TW2 for Australians, I thought that was just too cool to not support. Turns out they also had some nice games as well.

I'm all for it. It simply doesn't cause any harm to what we already have. I only worry that newer games may start to make the older releases less frequent, but they're not really NEW games per se, just less old than what we're used to getting. Also, DRM free games to download and keep forever beats client based system that can change OS, ban me from my games or require an internet connection to play in my book.

I don't see why you guys don't like this. Getting new games drm-free sounds almost too good to be true.

If there is a way to Filter titles by price this wont matter i feel... if you can create custom filters EG all indy games... all new games... all old games this change wont be bad at all... im very excited to see this happening...

Unfortunately, I think that's unavoidable. The "old" part of the concept has always meant that the average age of the forum users here is somewhat higher than almost anywhere else. The inclusion of new games will most likely drop the average age drastically, which is bound to have an effect on the community.

My apologies to any youngsters reading this. I don't mean to imply that all young people are idiots, just that a significantly higher percentage of them are. Unfortunately, being an idiot is usually a necessary step on the path to not being an idiot. When I think of how big an idiot I was at the age of 14, I really don't want the person I was then to frequent this forum. Of course, some of you may not want the person I am now to frequent this forum ;-)

Also, a huge influx of new people into an established community will usually have a disrupting effect, regardless of age. And a few releases of new DRM free games are bound to bring lots of new people flooding in.

All that said, I think it's a natural move for GOG to make. Hopefully, it can influence the rest of the industry. It is my fondest hope that other distributors with customer-hostile business practices will start to lose measureable market shares, although that is probably too optimistic. Still, one can hope.

1) some of us really couldn't care less about new releases and are worried that new releases are going to cut into the release of older titles. You know...the games we originally came here to get.

2) having newer games on the site means the communities associated with newer games are going to come here as well. While I'm not saying that anyone who plays new games is an asshole, it's probably safe to say that nobody is going to be happy about certain aspects of the Steam community showing up here. Plus, at the moment GOG is probably the best community for actually having good discussions about old games, and I can say from experience that that will disappear once there's more of a focus on newer games.

This for me; I do care about this site, as it's the main one I visit, and I enjoy the anticipation of seeing what oldie is being repurposed each Tues and Thurs.

Maybe if Mon and Wed become new days, that will be one thing, but the TITLE of the site I just can't seem to get over. It's Good OLD Games, and I know old is relative, but I think we can agree that we have figured out some standard here, mainly pre-2000 titles that won't work on new machines otherwise.

Of course, I don't want to deny people the right to purchase new DRM-free games; I just don't want it to affect the release and focus of Good Old Games Repurposed to Work On New Machines, because there are still plenty of GOGs to be re-released.

I support this. At first, I was sceptical (see definition GOG), but then I thought that sticking your head in the sand just doesn't cut it anymore.

1. I don't believe new games will cut into older games since GoG knows their entire customer base as of right now came here for older games.
2. Sure there will be 15 year old kids with ADD showing up but if everyone sticks to their own section of the forums I believe we can co-exist.
