I just got this great idea for expanding GOG's catalog. What if GOG includes in their already varied offerings games that aren't "old" by ways of their release date, but rather on their "style"? I'm talking about games like Echalon Book 1, which are technically not old, since it was released only 1-2 years ago, but it's an isometric, turn-style combat game, and plays sort of like Fallout. Would GOG considering offering that game, since, Basilik games, their developer, is going to release the next chapter of that game, Book 2, this year. And i think Book 1 is already available in other, more "strict" client-driven download services, which are less than ideal, unlike GOG. : D

You should check out Spiderweb Software (spiderwebsoftware.com). They've made a couple of classic style isometric RPG series, which are quite good. Their older games are available for free, but will probably require Dosbox or something to work.

Spiderweb software has made some really great games. They mostly make their games first for the mac platform and then for the pc, which i find amazingly surprising. :D They released the source code for one of their older games, and it has been ported to windows and linux. And theyre still going strong. Which is amazing, considering that they are basically a 3 worker company, out of which only 1 guy writes the actual game source coding. : )

the problem is, a lot of those games still sell for like $20
unfortunately, you'll probably have to wait until they actually get old until they drop enough for GOG's prices to look attractive for the publisher. it won't take nearly as long as a new blockbuster game though.

Do all of their games sell for that much? Their catalog extends to the last decade. Maybe some of their early games can fall into the GOG price categories.

Most of the older style games I can think of that I've played have all been freeware indie games. Major publishers just aren't interested in older styles of games...although Capcom has gone crazy with some cool remakes. But they are all console exclusive. Or is that Bionic Commando remake on PC too?

I just checked my own indie game link list and as you say most of em cost around 20$, even the games in spiderweb's old exile series cost 15$ or 25$ for whole trilogy and these are games from mid 90's or something. Only game falling in the GOG price range is Morning's Wrath as it currently costs 7.87€. Could it compete with other games here? Dunno, probably not, but would probably still buy it if sold here as there are not that many RPG's available these days.
I asked about this last year and Mikee from GOG.com team gave following answer:
Currently we mostly focus on getting classic hits. Those are usually in publishers hands. Some rights came back to devs, and this way we get pretty a lot titles, as developers act usually faster and are more motivated to earn additional money;)
Meaning, that our focus right now is solely dedicated to get known, non-indy games. And as long as there is a huge pile of work to build our catalog, in nearest future we just need to concentrate on this task.
..but;) We looked carefully what is going on the indy scene. And we see potential there. Those games will need a little different mechanisms to be shown to community as many of them are not so widely known. So it requires not only just getting them but also making right environment to sell them. Bit bigger task that it might seem. I believe that some day we will expand enough that we will be able to make it happen, but first we need to be satisfied from what we achieved with known, classic games.
There are two more aspects of indy games. Ideas behind indy development are close to our philosophy (non-corporate, gamers friendly approach without unnecessary bureaucracy). Second is that if gog grew enough it can be a good platform for authors to earn some money, which as indy dev is never easy.
So never say never;)

Maybe GOG can open a division for indie games, and call it "GIG" (Good Indie Games). : D That's something that belongs to GOG.

A Vampyre Story is a good old style game but its still far too new for GOG I think.
