American Psycho if you like satire/horror. Nice movie but not as good as the book off course.

Well, kind of. One thing is for sure they went into HUGE decline after the 80s unless you were in Japan which is when they really started their own mastery of the genre. Prior to that I can't pin it down to a decade because as many classics as there were in the 80s I start to think of all the masterpieces that came out of the 70s and 60s not to mention the silent films like Nosferatu and Caligari of way back in the 20s. Mind you it's a debate I love to have because in my mind even a shitty horror is still a great film.

What type of horror do you like? Horror-comedy? Gory schlock? Slow-burn psychological horror?

Jacob's Ladder is one of the all-time greats; influenced a ton of stuff that came after it (including the Silent Hill games).

Here's a thread I made I couple of years ago asking for horror movie recommendations; might be worth browsing through.

EDIT: Oh, and as for more recent fare, I recently watched an independent horror film called Absentia that I ended up liking quite a bit. It's one of those rare horror movies that figures out, "Hey, you know this shit is actually a lot scarier if we like the characters and don't want to see horrible things happen to them."

Well, all the horror icons, that we see buthered and raped by modern cinematography (like Freddy, Michael Mayers and Pinhead) were born in 80s.
Not to mention wave of Italian zombie movies - those were big here in Poland back in the times of VHS and first video rental stores.

Those went downhill after the beyond imo. But the 80s got Cronenberg and Carpenter tho, so it's all good.

For the OP: don't know your specific subgenre but you can't go wrong with Feast, because Henry Rollins and Jenny Wade.


Also, I've heard good things about The Banshee Chapter but when it comes to movies my GF is a crybaby and I'm wainting for her to go to her mom for the weekend to watch it. Turns out she doesn't like shitting bricks.

Black Sunday, 1960 is one of those odd, disturbing kind of horror movies that rarely gets mentioned but is a worthy addition to any collection. :)
