Wow thats a steep price for such a game....

I ended up buying it, as a hobbyist game developer I have a soft spot for devs trying to do something new. But I do think it is overpriced for what the market is likely to pay. Hopefully it will be picked up by GOG and bundled with some extras, with perhaps a price adjustment to make it more appealing.

Is there a Vsync option, or are the people on Gamespot, who record gameplay for video reviews, incompetent schmucks?
The review I watched had horrible and constant screen tearing.

The game does indeed have Vsync.

As for the price I didn't think much about it, although looking it up now with the current discount, in my region it costs US$13,42, so I guess I understand that you would have a bigger problem with it.

But even if it was more expensive, frankly I feel like I have more money than time lately, so I just worry about whether or not it's good.

So did anyone buy it? Come on, tell me how it turned out. The reviews just scream overrated crap.

indeed, this game is nothing more than an interactive story, where you walk around a big house and search for notes, postcards, books, journals and other documents from which you learn about the members of the family (and, of course, their problems and what they tell / don't tell)

the most fun for me was the fact that you REALLY NEED to search everything, look behind sofas, under the pillows, between shelves, and as I'm obsessed with searching every corner in all the games anyway, I loved that you actually find A LOT of hidden messages if you do... of course, if you don't like scavenger hunts so much, you'll probably only find half of the documents and the story might not work or seem very shallow...

but as I said, I liked the game - the abandoned house in the storm has a great atmosphere, and I was really looking forward to find out more and more about the family - and as I read somewhere, "at the end you feel like the house and the family living in it are real"

can't really think of any other game to compare it to, so hopefully the info above will give you the idea if you want to experience this or not :) I was satisfied and don't feel sorry for the money spent.

Something that gives you a challenge (even an easy one).
Game like this and Dear Esther, or Home, are visual novels for me.

But why it matters if it is game or not? Why people keep trying to prove what is 'a game' and what is 'not-a-game'? Does it really matter that much for people if something what they consider as 'not-a-game' will be called by someone else 'a game'?

The problem isn't that is not a "game", for me.
The problem is, the experience is too much overpriced.
18 for this game are simply too much.
I enjoyed Home, I liked The Walking Dead and Proteus, I hated Dear Esther (but for plot reason), so I'm not against those "genre".
I'm against the fact that a 1 hour game can be sold for 18€.

And all the "This is a masterpiece 10/10" reviews are not justified by the final product.

That's the effect of "art" games. You either rate them well or you're gonna get branded as a stupid person - art games are deep and can never be anything but great and above.

well, did you find ALL the notes and memos? even the one from the schoolteacher complaining about Sam? :o)

EDIT: and if you really played through the game in 1 hour you did a speedrun and probably didn't even read the texts ;)
