I'm going to London with my family next week, and I have a couple of questions for any London/UK GOGers here:

1. How much do cigarettes cost in the UK? I need to know whether to bring my own or buy them there.

2. What's the smoking policy like? Is smoking in the street okay? I'm guessing that smoking is prohibited indoors in most public places, which is perfectly fine.

3. Any suggestions for things to see/do? I'll be having my 12-year-old son with me, so things he might also appreciate are welcome, but we also plan to leave him in the care of my in-laws occasionally. We've already planned to see three museums, so no suggestions for those, please.

4. Any general advice? I've never set foot in London (or the UK for that matter), so anything you feel I should know is of interest.

1) between £6 & £8 for a pack of 20, dependant on the brand.
2) Smoking outside is fine, but not allowed in any inside public space. Most hotels will not even let you smoke in your room.
3) Not too sure there. I try to avoid london...
4) Remember to look the right way when crossing the road!

When you get a chance go up to one of the Royal Guards and piss on them. They like it when you do that.

The funny thing is that they are not allowed to react, so as long as there are no normal police around, you will probably get away with it.
Make sure you have an accomplice nearby with a camera....

A friend of mine who lived in London for a few years told me if I ever go there, to find out which parts are inhabited by pakistanis and bangladeshis and avoid them like the plague. Never been there myself tho, so can't say .

SEE I heard that was a myth and that even if you just made a gesture, if the gesture could be perceived as threatening, they had the right to at least knock you on your ass.

If you smoke in London the House Guard will shoot you on sight. It's a very recent law passed in 1689 but it was amended later so you can still smoke if you stand on one leg and are holding a pigeon under one arm. But as soon as that leg hits the ground - boom.

RIP Wishbone he was a cool guy.

One thing I will say is if any English give you trouble because you're foreigner, don't be shy to get in their face about it. I have seen it happen ALOT in London but it's all bark and no bite. I think it's just in their nature...

Be prepared to be ripped off also, the prices are absolutely shocking. It's tourist central so they're trying hard to rip you off at any chance they get.

Don't fuck with the soldiers you see standing still even though some tourists have gotten away with it. The soldiers will react violently if they are in a bad mood.

With a 12 year old, you could go to the zoo(near regent's park) or the aquarium (near the Big Ben). Both cost around 20 pounds for an adult. If you are willing to go someplace further away, I enjoyed going with my nephew to Chessington world of adventures. It's kind of a mix between theme park/zoo. He'll probably enjoy Hamley's too (5 storey toy shop), I tendo to enjoy it more than I should at my age.
